About this item

With a Whetstone Knife, you can use ashes of war to grant affinities to your armaments at sites of grace.

This way, you can alter an armament's attack affinity, boost attribute scaling, and more.

An armament's type determines what affinities it can have. Some special armaments, like those with unique skills, cannot be granted new affinities.

Starting Site of Grace: Gatefront

1. From the Church of Elleh, follow the road north to Gatefront Ruins.
2. Search the southern part of the soldier camp for the stairwell descending underground. Clear nearby soldiers before opening your inventory.
3. Go down and open the chest for Whetstone Knife and Ash of War: Storm Stomp.
4. The Whetstone Knife pickup introduces the skill and affinity menus. The explanation is saved under Info.

Notes

• Choose an affinity when applying a compatible Ash of War at a grace. It can change base damage, attribute scaling and sometimes status buildup.
• Heavy emphasizes Strength, Keen emphasizes Dexterity and Quality uses both. Magic and Cold add Intelligence scaling, Sacred and Flame Art add Faith scaling, and Occult adds Arcane scaling. Fire and Flame Art are different choices.
• The Whetstone Knife opens the system. Additional whetblades expand the choices, but the Ash's compatibility still limits which affinities can be selected.
• An affinity can reduce one part of a weapon's damage while improving another. The best choice depends on the weapon and your attributes rather than the name alone.
• Grease or a weapon enchantment can be applied while using an affinity that allows weapon buffs. Most elemental and status affinities prevent those outside buffs.
