Bear Communion incantations

In-game description

An incantation of what is jokingly called "the bear communion."

Channels the power of Rugalea, the great red bear.

Transform oneself into a great red bear and emit a mighty roar.

Charging increases potency.

An incantation that is more akin to the divine invocation of the hornsent than it is to the Dragon Communion. Only through desperate battle with the feral wild can one discover a god unique to oneself.

Where to find

Rugalea in the northern woods

Rauh Base

Starting Site of Grace: Ravine North

Before you go

  • To enter the Realm of Shadow, defeat Starscourge Radahn and Mohg, Lord of Blood, then touch the withered arm in Mohg's arena at Mohgwyn Palace.
  1. To enter the Realm of Shadow, defeat Starscourge Radahn and Mohg, Lord of Blood, then touch the withered arm in Mohg's arena at Mohgwyn Palace.
  2. From Moorth Ruins grace in Scadu Altus, ride northeast to the small triangular pool. Look for the cave beside a statue of Marika and a Scadutree Fragment.
  3. Enter the cave and follow it past the perfumers to the glowing golden tree. Take the path to its right down into the swamp.
  4. Turn left through the route beneath the rock and continue until you emerge into Rauh Base. Activate Ancient Ruins Base grace ahead.
  5. Follow the valley southwest toward Temple Town Ruins. A bow golem and an axe golem guard the approach; fighting them is optional if you can pass their attacks.
  6. Collect the map beneath the stele near the ruined town. This is the lower valley, not the upper ruins reached through Shadow Keep.
  7. From Temple Town Ruins, follow the lower river north and northwest to Ravine North grace. Stay in the valley instead of looking for a path onto the upper Rauh ruins.
  8. Head northwest from Ravine North into the woods. Find Rugalea, the enormous red bear, and defeat it to receive Roar of Rugalea. The other bears do not award the incantation.

Notes

  • Requires 14 Faith, uses one memory slot and costs 17 FP. It deals Physical damage in front of the caster rather than Holy or Fire damage.
  • The ordinary release is one strong roar with attack power equal to 355% of Incantation Scaling and 14 stance damage.
  • Charging changes it into an opening roar, repeated smaller pulses and a stronger finishing roar. The first and last hits supply most of its damage and all 28 of its potential stance damage.
  • Both versions cost 17 FP, but the charged sequence uses much more stamina and takes longer. Small pulses can hold a lighter enemy in place, while a large enemy may keep attacking through them.
  • Damage follows the casting seal's Incantation Scaling, not the attack power of your melee weapon. A Strength or Arcane contribution requires a seal that actually uses that attribute.
  • Pelt of Ralva improves this incantation by 15%. Roar Medallion improves it by 10% against enemies and 5% against other players. Godfrey Icon boosts the charged version.
  • Flame, Grant Me Strength and other Physical damage bonuses can improve it. Dragon Communion Seal's dragon-spell bonus and Clawmark Seal's bestial-spell bonus do not apply to this bear incantation.
  • The many small charged pulses face enemy defense separately. A longer sequence does not guarantee proportionally more damage, especially if the enemy escapes before the finish.
  • Its charged finish can launch human-sized enemies. Do not rely on that reaction against a large boss or an enemy that resists the knockback.
  • Rugalea in Rauh Base gives the spell. Ralva in Scadu Altus gives the enhancing pelt, and Red Bear inside Northern Nameless Mausoleum is a different encounter.
