About this item
Dying normally leaves your carried runes at a death marker and returns you to a grace or an available Stake of Marika.
Recover the marker before dying again. A second death replaces the old marker, and the runes from the first one are lost.
Only the runes you are carrying are at risk in this way. Rune consumables still sitting in your inventory are not dropped with the carried total.

In-game description
Upon dying, you will be revived at the last site of grace that you visited.
You will drop any runes in your possession at the site of your death.
If you die again before reclaiming those runes, they will be lost forever.
The compass at the top of the screen indicates the direction of the lost runes.
Where to find
First ordinary death after reaching Stranded Graveyard
Lands Between
- Continue beyond the opening Chapel of Anticipation sequence into Stranded Graveyard.
- The death tutorial is introduced after an ordinary death during subsequent exploration. There is no physical note to collect.
Notes
- Dying normally leaves your carried runes at a death marker and returns you to a grace or an available Stake of Marika.
- Recover the marker before dying again. A second death replaces the old marker, and the runes from the first one are lost.
- Only the runes you are carrying are at risk in this way. Rune consumables still sitting in your inventory are not dropped with the carried total.
- Use the compass and map marker to find the dropped runes. They may be placed on nearby reachable ground rather than at the exact point where you fell.
- The unavoidable opening transition from the Chapel of Anticipation is separate from the ordinary death that introduces this tutorial.
