About this item

Hold the guard control with a shield in the left hand or a weapon held in both hands. Blocking uses stamina, so keep enough in reserve to survive the next hit.

Damage negation determines how much HP damage gets through. Guard Boost determines how much stamina a blocked hit costs. A shield with 100 Physical negation can still let elemental damage through.

If a block empties your stamina, your guard breaks and leaves you open to a critical attack. Lower the shield between safe openings so stamina can recover faster.

Where to find

Cave of Knowledge

Limgrave

Starting Site of Grace: Stranded Graveyard

  1. From Stranded Graveyard, approach the seated ghost beside the hole before the large exit lift. Drop into the hole and activate Cave of Knowledge grace.
  2. Follow the practice path through the enemies and read the introduction to guarding when it appears. This explanation is awarded automatically, rather than picked up from a corpse.
  3. Continue through the Soldier of Godrick encounter to return to the upper graveyard. The Info tab keeps the tutorial available to read afterward.
