Baleful Shadow

The Baleful Shadow is the hostile wolf-knight encountered below Nokstella during Ranni’s quest. It resembles Blaidd but serves a separate quest encounter and reward.

Before you go

  • Finish Miniature Ranni’s request for the shadow hunt.
  1. Use the sending gate in Renna’s Rise after Ranni receives Fingerslayer Blade. Collect Miniature Ranni and speak to her three times at Ainsel River Main grace.
  2. Follow the river past Uhl Palace Ruins into Nokstella. Continue through its lower route to the lift down toward Nokstella Waterfall Basin.
  3. From that grace, follow the tunnel past the basilisks toward the open red-lit chamber. Defeat the Baleful Shadow when it appears.

Quest steps can include different outcomes. Read the branch, conditions and cutoffs before making a choice.

  1. Hear the miniature’s request

    Branch: Main quest

    At Ainsel River Main, repeat Talk to miniature Ranni three times until she answers and asks you to deal with the shadows.

  2. Defeat the shadow

    Branch: Main quest

    Reach the chamber beyond Nokstella Waterfall Basin and kill the hostile wolf-knight.

  3. Use the key

    Branch: Main quest

    Take Discarded Palace Key back to Rennala’s locked chest in Raya Lucaria Grand Library for Dark Moon Ring.

Notes

  • The shadow is not Blaidd’s final tower encounter. It does not drop Royal Greatsword or Blaidd’s armor.
  • If it does not appear, check the repeated miniature conversation rather than attacking Blaidd elsewhere.
  • Basilisks in the approach inflict Death Blight. Move through their clouds carefully instead of stopping to fight the shadow in them.
  • The ring chest is back at Raya Lucaria. It is not one of Nokstella’s treasure chests.
  • Defeating this encounter does not finish Ranni’s quest; Lake of Rot, Astel and Moonlight Altar remain.
