Starting Site of Grace: Scadu Altus, West
Before you go
- To enter the Realm of Shadow, defeat Starscourge Radahn and Mohg, Lord of Blood, then touch the withered arm in Mohg's arena at Mohgwyn Palace.
- Reach Scadu Altus.
- From Highroad Cross in Scadu Altus, go west toward the water and waygate. Follow the water's northern edge, then continue west to Scadu Altus, West grace on the cliff overlooking Fog Rift Fort.
- Look immediately northwest below the grace for the rock ledges leading to the fort's tower. Drop onto each visible ledge and then the tower, rather than jumping directly into the ravine.
- Follow the rampart past the spearmen and through the room with two waiting soldiers. Keep away from the explosive barrels while they attack; a ranged Fire attack can set off barrels from a safer distance.
- Beyond the tower rooms, stay on the main ramparts toward the higher stone bridge and the larger bastion. The stairs to the narrow wooden bridge lead to a different cookbook detour.
- Cross the stone bridge toward the large building. Black Knight Garrew comes out to fight; defeat him for the guaranteed Black Steel Greatshield. His frog-like Crucible tongue is an enemy attack, not a skill added to the shield.
- The courtyard below contains a separate flail pickup and the roof above the bastion has a talisman. Neither detour is necessary to receive the shield.
