About this item

Black whetblade with a cipher engraved. Can be used as a whetstone knife.

When applying an affinity using physical or occult-type ashes of war, an additional affinity of poison, blood, or occult can be chosen.

Starting Site of Grace: Ancestral Woods

1. Defeat Radahn and descend the crater south of Mistwood to reach Nokron. Progress past Mimic Tear and turn into Ancestral Woods.
2. From Ancestral Woods grace, jump to the roof below and follow the roofs and narrow ledges into Night's Sacred Ground.
3. Cross the broken arch into the chapel's upper floor. Before dropping down toward the giant Silver Tear, search the corpse by the altar for Black Whetblade.

Notes

• Adds Poison, Blood and Occult affinities to compatible Ashes of War.
• Poison and Blood add their respective buildup. Occult improves Arcane-based damage scaling without automatically adding a new status effect.
• On a weapon with innate bleed or poison, Occult can let Arcane improve that existing buildup. A status-free weapon does not gain bleed just by choosing Occult.
• It is permanent and is not consumed by applying or changing affinity.
• The extra choices work with physical Ashes and compatible poison, blood or occult Ashes. The whetblade does not let you select Blood on an Ash whose elemental restrictions rule it out.
• Arcane scaling can increase existing poison and blood loss buildup, but does not make innate Scarlet Rot or Frostbite scale with Arcane in the same way.
• Choosing Poison, Blood or Occult normally prevents grease and ordinary weapon enchantments. An Ash that applies its own coating follows the skill's own rules instead.
• The knife or whetblade carries into later Journeys. Changing an affinity does not spend it, and you do not need another copy for a second weapon.
