About this crafting material

Used to craft Piquebone Arrow, Piquebone Arrow (Fletched) and Piquebone Bolt. Two Congealed Putrescence are needed per batch: the arrows make ten, while the bolts make five.

Piquebone ammunition draws the attention of suitable enemies toward its impact point. It does not turn every enemy into an ally or replace the ammunition requirements of your bow or crossbow.

The fletched arrows also need Flight Pinions. Use them when you want the longer flight of fletched ammunition rather than assuming the three recipes have identical ingredients and yields.

In-game description

Bruise-colored putrescence that oozes from stone coffins, congealed into a large viscous lump. Material used for crafting items.

Found underground in the land to where stone coffins drift.

The putrescence is what remains of the impure lives kept within the stone coffins.

Where to find

Ground pickups and putrescent slimes

Stone Coffin Fissure

Starting Site of Grace: Fissure Cross

Before you go

  • The Fissure seal has broken
  1. To enter the Realm of Shadow, defeat Starscourge Radahn and Mohg, Lord of Blood, then touch the withered arm in Mohg's arena at Mohgwyn Palace.
  2. From Castle Front, ride south to the crossroads, turn east and follow the road to the next fork. Take the right-hand dirt track, then the left fork downhill toward the southeast.
  3. Pass the bloodfiends and descend into the shallow poison area. Follow the lower path down toward the river rather than climbing toward the fort; watch for militia and poison traps along the descent.
  4. At the bottom is a shallow pool with a giant crab. Turn southwest into the opening in the cliff, continue through the cave past the Revered Spirit Ash chamber and activate Ellac River Cave grace.
  5. Leave by the southern cave exit and turn south along the river. Use Torrent to cross the successive rock ledges beside the waterfall, landing on the nearby rocks rather than jumping to the valley floor.
  6. Continue down the ledge path past the stone birds, watching for the living ones to attack. Drop down the short rock steps to Ellac River Downstream grace.
  7. From Downstream, continue south beside the lower falls. Cross the long rock pillar toward the east and use its far side to reach the lower water safely.
  8. The lower basin opens toward a Furnace Golem. Its fight is optional for reaching the coast, the friendly forager or the lightning-flower pond.
  9. Head through the eastern wooded side of the basin, then follow the passage southwest through the cliffs to Cerulean Coast grace. The blue-flowered field beyond confirms you have reached the coast.
  10. Ride south through the blue-flowered field past the huge stone coffins. Circle the Ghostflame Dragon rather than fighting if you only want the map.
  11. Continue south along the coast to the huge crater on the peninsula. Use the ledges on its western side to descend to The Fissure grace, then enter the tunnel. If a golden seal blocks the way, approach Shadow Keep until the message announces that a great rune and a powerful charm have broken, then return.
  12. Activate Stone Coffin Fissure grace on the right. Follow the southeastern ledge past the bloodfiends and the rocky pillar. The ledge beyond collapses as part of the route; after landing below, go right to Fissure Cross.
  13. From Fissure Cross, head northwest toward the fallen coffin and rubble. Drop along the visible ledges into the short cave beneath the main route. Watch for Putrescence Slimes dropping from the ceiling.
  14. Defeat these slimes and collect their Congealed Putrescence drops. Rest at Fissure Cross to respawn the enemies for another run; their drops provide a renewable supply.
  15. The cave also contains Velvet Sword of St. Trina. You do not need to continue through the beam-firing Stone Worms, defeat Putrescent Knight or reach the garden to gather this material.

Notes

  • Used to craft Piquebone Arrow, Piquebone Arrow (Fletched) and Piquebone Bolt. Two Congealed Putrescence are needed per batch: the arrows make ten, while the bolts make five.
  • Piquebone ammunition draws the attention of suitable enemies toward its impact point. It does not turn every enemy into an ally or replace the ammunition requirements of your bow or crossbow.
  • The fletched arrows also need Flight Pinions. Use them when you want the longer flight of fletched ammunition rather than assuming the three recipes have identical ingredients and yields.
  • Putrescence Slimes in Stone Coffin Fissure provide a renewable enemy-drop supply. Fixed bundles found on corpses are separate pickups; do not assume those return when the enemies respawn.
  • The Fissure entrance stays sealed until the great rune and charm break as you approach Shadow Keep. Once it opens, the earlier slime route is available without defeating Putrescent Knight.
