Death Rite Bird south of Gate Town North

Starting Site of Grace: Gate Town North

Before you go

  • Visit the bird's location at night.
  1. Rest at Gate Town North and pass time until night. Head south into the sunken ruins on the eastern side of Raya Lucaria Academy.
  2. Approach the ruined ground to make the Death Rite Bird appear. Defeat it to receive Ancient Death Rancor. If it does not appear, check that it is night.
  3. This is the Death Rite Bird beside the academy's sunken eastern ruins. The ordinary Deathbird farther south near Scenic Isle gives another reward. The spell is awarded on the correct bird's defeat, not from a chest afterward.
  4. If you die, return to the grace and set the time to night again before retrying. You do not need to enter Raya Lucaria or obtain its Glintstone Key for this outdoor boss.

Notes

  • This victory awards Ancient Death Rancor, not the branchsword from the ordinary Deathbird near Scenic Isle.
  • The bird appears only at night. After a defeat, return to a grace and check the time before riding back to the ruins.
  • It is an outdoor encounter east of Raya Lucaria. The Academy Glintstone Key and Rennala’s defeat are unnecessary.
  • Holy damage and anti-undead effects are useful against this bird. A Holy Water Pot is a different tool from an ordinary Fire Pot, even though both use a throwing container.
  • The pale flames left on the ground continue to hurt after the initial swing and build Frostbite. Move onto clear ground before trying to heal or cast a slow spell.
  • The hovering wing attacks can leave tracking projectiles active while the bird starts another move. Keep watching those projectiles after the bird’s animation changes.
  • When it prepares the large ghostflame burst, create space and look for a clear path between the trails afterward. Dodging the first blast does not remove the fire left behind.
  • Fighting directly under the head risks pecks, a grab and awkward camera movement. Circle toward its rear when possible, while still watching for the next repositioning attack.
