About this crafting material

One is spent for each Hefty Furnace Pot, along with two Redflesh Mushrooms and two Embers of Messmer. The recipe needs Greater Potentate's Cookbook (2) and an available Hefty Cracked Pot.

The six Messmer Foot Soldiers beside the ruined Furnace Golem outside Shadow Keep can each drop one, with an 8% base chance at 100 Item Discovery. Other soldiers across the camp do not all have that drop.

This specific soldier group is renewable. Furnace Golem defeat rewards and fixed corpse bundles are limited to those encounters and pickups in the current journey.

In-game description

A smaller imitation of the furnace golem's visage. Material used for crafting items.

Exceedingly rare to find.

A stone mask surrounded by curled horns, depicting the fell god of fire that haunts the sagas of the hornsent.

Where to find

Six foot soldiers beside the ruined Furnace Golem

Scadu Altus

Starting Site of Grace: Shadow Keep Main Gate

  1. From Highroad Cross in Scadu Altus, follow the main road north through the army camp to Shadow Keep's southern entrance. Ride its entrance lift and activate Shadow Keep Main Gate before the boss arena.
  2. Start at Shadow Keep Main Gate and take the lift back down to the outdoor approach.
  3. Head east toward the remains of the ruined Furnace Golem, northeast of the large army camp.
  4. Defeat the six Messmer Foot Soldiers gathered beside those remains and collect their drops.
  5. Return to the grace, rest and repeat. This particular group can drop Furnace Visages, rather than every soldier across the camp.

Furnace Golem defeat rewards

Realm of Shadow

  1. Find a Furnace Golem you have not defeated yet, such as the one on the early Gravesite Plain road.
  2. Defeat it and collect the Furnace Visage reward.
  3. These golems do not respawn, so each defeat is a one-time supply.

Hornsent's Scorpion Stew reward

Scadu Altus

Starting Site of Grace: Highroad Cross

Before you go

  • Storeroom Key
  • Defeat Divine Beast Dancing Lion
  • Divine Beast Head
  • Hornsent remains at Highroad Cross
  1. To enter the Realm of Shadow, defeat Starscourge Radahn and Mohg, Lord of Blood, then touch the withered arm in Mohg's arena at Mohgwyn Palace.
  2. From Three-Path Cross, follow the western route through the rocky passage to Main Gate Cross outside Belurat.
  3. Climb the entrance stairs and open the large doors. Pass the giant scorpions and the room of smaller scorpions, then continue upstairs to Belurat, Tower Settlement grace.
  4. The large doors ahead are shut. Take the path right into the small square with the waterfall, then turn left toward the elevated bridge where shadow casters fire down at you.
  5. Pass beneath the elevated bridge and enter the open doorway on the left. Clear the shadow enemies and climb the building's stairs to Small Private Altar grace.
  6. Leave through the northern doorway and climb the stairs on the right. The Horned Warrior with two curved swords patrols just above the grace.
  7. Past the patrolling Horned Warrior, take the narrow alley on the right to get around the broken bridge. Watch the corners for shadow enemies and continue toward the shallow channel at the top of the waterfall.
  8. Enter the room beside the channel and climb its ladder. The corpse at the top holds Storeroom Key. For the boss, leave through the upper doorway and take the stairs on the right.
  9. At the next fork, the left route leads toward the scorpion room and the shortcut lift. For Stagefront, take the right-hand route across the rooftops with Gravebirds. Clear the birds and the caster near the far end before crossing.
  10. Return to the street and cross the covered bridge. A pot-carrying shadow runs here, and a Horned Warrior waits beyond it. Keep the fight away from the narrow bridge if you need room.
  11. Continue to the courtyard with the large tree and praying shadows. Cross to the large doorway and enter the upper level of the scorpion hall.
  12. Climb the spiral staircase, watching for the Curseblade's spinning attacks. Continue up the final stairs and activate Stagefront grace before opening the boss doors.
  13. Defeat Divine Beast Dancing Lion. Activate Theatre of the Divine Beast grace and collect the large Divine Beast Head from the arena floor before leaving. The remembrance is a separate direct boss reward.
  14. Return to Small Private Altar. Leave through its bridge exit, cross past the two shadow casters and use Storeroom Key on the door at the end to reach Hornsent Grandam.
  15. Wear Divine Beast Head and finish her conversation for Watchful Spirit. Rest, return and speak to her again to obtain Scorpion Stew.
  16. Reach Highroad Cross on Scadu Altus and give the stew to Hornsent while he is still standing there. Finish his dialogue to receive three Furnace Visages.
  17. Do this before his quest moves him away from the cross. The stew is not a reward to save until after finishing Shadow Keep if you want this exchange.

Notes

  • One is spent for each Hefty Furnace Pot, along with two Redflesh Mushrooms and two Embers of Messmer. The recipe needs Greater Potentate's Cookbook (2) and an available Hefty Cracked Pot.
  • The six Messmer Foot Soldiers beside the ruined Furnace Golem outside Shadow Keep can each drop one, with an 8% base chance at 100 Item Discovery. Other soldiers across the camp do not all have that drop.
  • This specific soldier group is renewable. Furnace Golem defeat rewards and fixed corpse bundles are limited to those encounters and pickups in the current journey.
  • Giving Scorpion Stew to Hornsent at Highroad Cross supplies three as a quest reward. That exchange depends on his remaining at the cross, so complete it before progressing his next move.
  • Hefty Furnace Pots are particularly useful when thrown into a Furnace Golem's open basket from suitable high ground. The armor-legged golems require a different approach from simply attacking ordinary unarmored legs.
  • Throwing into the basket is a targeting problem, rather than a requirement to buy a new container. The Hefty Cracked Pot becomes available again, but the visage and other ingredients are spent.
  • This small crafting mask is separate from the Visage Shield weapon. It cannot be equipped as armor or used directly to activate a skill.
