Hornsent

Hornsent follows the crosses while seeking revenge on Messmer. Leda’s early hunt and the decision to summon him against Messmer determine where you face him later.

Gravesite Plain · Three-Path Cross

Starting Site of Grace: Three-Path Cross

  1. From Gravesite Plain, follow the main road north past Scorched Ruins toward the large burning Furnace Golem.
  2. Keep clear of the golem and follow the road to the cross at its branching junction. Speak to Freyja and Hornsent there.

Cross beyond Castle Ensis

Scadu Altus · Highroad Cross

Starting Site of Grace: Highroad Cross

  1. From Castle Ensis, defeat Rellana and leave through the rear doorway onto Scadu Altus.
  2. Follow the road to Highroad Cross grace and speak to the followers beside the cross. The mountain route around Castle Ensis can also reach this region.

Shadow Keep · Leda confrontation

When available: After Leda names him as her target, before entering Messmer’s encounter.

Starting Site of Grace: Main Gate Plaza

  1. From Highroad Cross in Scadu Altus, follow the main road north to Shadow Keep's southern gate. Ride the entrance lift and activate Shadow Keep Main Gate grace.
  2. Defeat Golden Hippopotamus in the plaza. This is the front-door route; the flooded Church District provides a different way into the keep.
  3. From Main Gate Plaza, leave through the west-northwest doorway, pass through the armory and climb the stairs. Continue up the wooden steps to the dining hall, where two Black Knights guard the route.
  4. Leave the dining hall through its southeastern exit to the upper rampart. Follow the rampart past the burning boats and watch for the small Shadow Militiamen hiding beside them.
  5. On the burning-boat walkway, look on the right beside the stairs leading down for the two summon signs. Do this before entering Messmer's encounter, while the confrontation remains available.

Stairs approaching Church of the Bud

Ancient Ruins of Rauh · Rauh invasion

When available: His later invasion depends on preserving him and the Messmer summon branch.

Starting Site of Grace: Church of the Bud, Main Entrance

  1. On the approach to Romina, climb the stairs through the rot-covered ruins toward Church of the Bud.
  2. If his revenge route is active, Hornsent invades on this approach. Defeat him before continuing.

Quest steps

Quest steps can include different outcomes. Read the branch, conditions and cutoffs before making a choice.

  1. Take the cross maps

    Branch: Main quest

    Speak at Three-Path Cross for his first map. After reaching Scadu Altus, finish his Highroad Cross conversation for the next map.

  2. Share the stew if desired

    Branch: Optional stew handover

    Obtain ordinary Scorpion Stew from Hornsent Grandam after her headpiece conversation. Give a serving to Hornsent while his dialogue allows it for Furnace Visages.

  3. Return after the charm breaks

    Branch: Main quest

    Speak to Hornsent and Leda at Highroad Cross. Her suspicion leads to the two signs on Shadow Keep’s burning-boat rampart.

  4. Help him against Leda

    Branch: Protect Hornsent

    Choose the gold sign before entering Messmer’s encounter. Victory gives Swift Slash and Leda’s Rune while keeping Hornsent’s revenge route available.

    Progression cutoff: Entering Messmer’s encounter removes this earlier sign choice.

  5. Help Leda instead

    Branch: Kill Hornsent

    Choose the red sign to kill Hornsent and receive Falx and his armor. Leda later gives Lacerating Crossed-Tree. His Messmer and Rauh stages end here.

  6. Call him against Messmer

    Branch: Main quest

    If he survives, find his gold sign inside Messmer’s arena. Summon him during the fight and speak to him in the arena afterward to follow the revenge branch.

  7. Resolve the later encounter

    Branch: Main quest

    Before this step: The outcome depends on the earlier hunt, Messmer summon and subsequent progression.

    On the revenge route, face his invasion on the stairs toward Church of the Bud and collect his equipment. Other unresolved states can place him among Leda’s Enir-Ilim opponents.

Notes

  • Resolve the early signs before first entering Messmer’s encounter, rather than waiting until the boss is dead.
  • Helping Hornsent against Leda stops her later optional Ansbach hunt. Plan around that if you want the Storehouse Longbow confrontation.
  • His summon sign is inside Messmer’s arena. Do not mistake the absence of a sign outside the mist for a failed quest.
  • A surviving Hornsent is not guaranteed to be friendly for the rest of the DLC. His later hostile state follows his own choices and revenge.
  • Hornsent and Hornsent Grandam have separate quest records. Their stew interaction connects them, but one character’s rewards do not replace the other’s.
