In-game description

A record of crafting techniques left by a warrior who challenged the vile dragon Bayle, only to be grievously injured and broken by fear. Contains details on how a mere mortal can fell a mighty dragon.

Acquire the knowledge to craft the following:

- Dragon Communion Grease - Dragon Communion Harpoon

Where to find

Ruined tower north of the Grand Altar

Foot of the Jagged Peak

Starting Site of Grace: Grand Altar of Dragon Communion

  1. From Castle Front, follow the road southeast toward Pillar Path Waypoint. At the fork, use the lower road toward Igon rather than climbing to the Suppressing Pillar.
  2. Continue south-southwest past the broken dragon statues. An Ancient Dragon-Man invades along this approach. The cave entrance is on the left near the end of the path, marked by a fire.
  3. Activate Dragon's Pit grace and follow the lit passage down. Watch for skeletons below the first ledge and around the next corner. Strike their glowing remains after knocking them down to stop them getting back up.
  4. In the large cavern with the pillars, follow the left-hand ledge down and take the passage beside the distant crossbow skeleton. Continue onto the sloping stairs in the next chamber.
  5. Take the downward route toward the large altar and pit. The stairs going up lead to an optional Magma Wyrm; that fight is not needed to reach the exit.
  6. At the bottom, approach the message beside the deep chasm. Walk straight off this lowest ledge into the pit to land safely by the boss mist. Do not jump from the higher rooms or aim toward the side walls.
  7. Defeat the Ancient Dragon-Man behind the mist. Open the large doors at the back of the arena instead of using the return-to-entrance exit, then follow the tunnel to Dragon's Pit Terminus grace.
  8. Leave Dragon's Pit Terminus and descend to the lake bed with a Jagged Peak Drake. You can ride past the drake; follow the southern canyon toward the enormous dead dragon.
  9. Pass the dragon statues and emerge beside the ruined structure north of Grand Altar of Dragon Communion. The huge stone bowl and dead dragon identify the altar.
  10. Enter the small ruined structure immediately north of the altar and loot the corpse for the cookbook.
  11. The book is a ground pickup. You do not need to spend Dragon Hearts, defeat Bayle or advance Igon's quest.

Notes

  • Unlocks Dragon Communion Harpoons and Dragon Communion Grease.
  • The book unlocks its recipes without being equipped or consumed. You also need the Crafting Kit from Kalé at the Church of Elleh to use Item Crafting.
  • You keep the book and its recipes in later Journeys. Its number identifies the contents rather than a required collection order.
  • Dragon Communion Grease: each craft makes 1, using 1 Knot Resin and 1 Sharp Gravel Stone.
  • Dragon Communion Harpoon: each craft makes 1, using 2 Sharp Gravel Stone, 1 Hefty Beast Bone, and 2 String.
  • Dragon Communion Harpoons are thrown by hand. They are separate from Igon's Harpoons, the greatarrows fired from a greatbow; this recipe does not craft ammunition for Igon's Greatbow.
  • The grease gives a temporary anti-dragon effect to a compatible weapon. It does not add Lightning damage or turn every weapon into a weapon that can be buffed.
  • Use the grease while using an affinity that allows weapon buffs. Another weapon enchantment replaces it on the same weapon.
  • Both recipes use Sharp Gravel Stone. Ordinary Gravel Stone is a different material and cannot replace it.
