Found near tree roots everywhere in the realm of shadow.

Serves as a primitive catalyst, making it suitable for processing using sorceries, incantations, and the like.

Starting Site of Grace: Castle Ensis Checkpoint

1. After defeating Starscourge Radahn and Mohg, Lord of Blood, touch the withered arm in Miquella's cocoon at Mohgwyn Palace. Leave the arrival cave and activate Gravesite Plain grace.
2. From Three-Path Cross, follow the eastern road over Ellac Greatbridge to Castle Front. Cross the northeastern bridge into Castle Ensis, passing the Troll Knight at the far end.
3. Follow the path left at the top. Soldiers and dogs wait around the fires and stairway, so draw them out before climbing farther.
4. Continue through the cave beyond the first campfire. Climb the ledges at its far exit, then follow the uphill path past the patrolling Black Knight.
5. At the top is a closed gate with Miquella's Cross beside it. Activate Castle Ensis Checkpoint grace before attempting the detour.
6. Take the small side path beside the gate and drop into the hole used to get around it.
7. Search the tree roots in the lower passage for the knot-shaped resin.
8. Collect it before continuing through the cave toward the waterfall ladder.

Before you go

• Greasemonger's Bell Bearing

1. Descend through the broken ground in Moorth Ruins to reach Bonny Village. Cross its eastern bridges and follow the road north toward the Cathedral of Manus Metyr.
2. Continue past the wooded area and the armored Furnace Golem to Church District Highroad grace. You can ride past the golem rather than fighting it.
3. From the grace, head south down the road and check the western cliff ledges for the wolves and a hanging pot. The pot is northeast of the cathedral.
4. Shoot the pot, then circle down to the lower ground and collect the fallen bearing.
5. Offer it to the Twin Maiden Husks at Roundtable Hold.
6. Buy Knot Resin for 1,800 runes each from the unlocked main shop.

Before you go

• 1,500 runes per resin.

1. To enter the Realm of Shadow, defeat Starscourge Radahn and Mohg, Lord of Blood, then touch the withered arm in Mohg's arena at Mohgwyn Palace.
2. From Three-Path Cross, follow the western route through the rocky passage to Main Gate Cross outside Belurat.
3. Speak to Moore beside the large backpack near the cross and choose Purchase. He sells five Knot Resin for 1,500 runes each.
4. Buy while his shop is available. This stock is limited, unlike the unlimited Twin Maiden Husks stock unlocked by Greasemonger's Bell Bearing.

Notes

• Used in the Realm of Shadow grease recipes, including Messmerfire, Dragonbolt, Royal Magic, Golden, Eternal Sleep, Dragon Communion and Festive Grease, along with their applicable drawstring versions.
• Each of these crafts spends one Knot Resin. The other ingredients and cookbook unlocks vary, so resin alone does not let you craft every coating.
• Greasemonger's Bell Bearing unlocks unlimited Knot Resin at the Twin Maiden Husks for 1,800 runes each. The bearing comes from a hanging pot near Church District Highroad.
• Moore has five for 1,500 runes each before his shop becomes unavailable. Resting does not refill that limited stock.
• Root Resin supplies many earlier grease recipes and cannot substitute for Knot Resin. Likewise, owning Knot Resin does not replace Root Resin in those older recipes.
• The resin is a crafting ingredient. Grease or weapon enchantments can be applied while using an affinity that allows weapon buffs; crafting an elemental grease does not remove a weapon's coating restrictions.
• The ingredient is consumed when the grease is crafted, and the prepared grease is consumed when applied. There is no reusable resin container to recover.
