- Spare Patches
- 800 runes
- Follow the river north from Agheel Lake and enter Murkwater Cave in the western wall of the ravine.
- Activate the cave grace, clear the bandits and open the chest in the back room to trigger Patches' fight. When he surrenders, stop attacking and speak to him.
- Leave and reload the cave, then speak to him again to open his shop.

- If Patches has died, offer his bell bearing to the Twin Maiden Husks at Roundtable Hold and buy the unpurchased book from his shop there.
Notes
- Unlocks Scriptstones, Grace Mimics and Gold-Pickled Fowl Feet.
- The book unlocks its recipes without being equipped or consumed. You also need the Crafting Kit from Kalé at the Church of Elleh to use Item Crafting.
- You keep the book and its recipes in later Journeys. Its number identifies the contents rather than a required collection order.
- Gold-Pickled Fowl Foot: each craft makes 1, using 3 Rowa Fruit, 1 Four-Toed Fowl Foot, and 1 Gold Firefly.
- Grace Mimic: each craft makes 1, using 1 Erdleaf Flower and 1 Human Bone Shard.
- Scriptstone: each craft makes 1, using 1 Ruin Fragment and 1 Human Bone Shard.
- Gold-Pickled Fowl Feet temporarily improve rune gains. Use one before the reward is received.
- A Grace Mimic creates a temporary imitation guidance effect. It does not create a real Site of Grace.
- Scriptstones reveal nearby messages, while Grace Mimics imitate guidance. Neither creates a permanent grace, and the gold foot is the separate rune-farming recipe.
- His shop can move to Scenic Isle and later quest locations. You do not need to kill him to buy the book.
