About this crafting material

An arcane butterfly with translucent wings.

Material used for crafting items. Exceedingly rare to find.

This butterfly appears as if it's just emerged from its cocoon for its entire life.

Two special shamans in northwestern Ancestral Woods

Nokron, Eternal City

Starting Site of Grace: Ancestral Woods

Before you go

• Reach Nokron after Radahn

1. Defeat Starscourge Radahn, then travel to southern Mistwood near Fort Haight. Find the new crater marked by floating rocks and descend carefully using its ledges to enter Nokron.
2. Cross the rooftops into the city streets and continue down to the Mimic Tear arena. Defeat the Mimic Tear and take the long bridge beyond it.
3. Leave the bridge on its left side where it meets the woodland. Follow the cliff edge to Ancestral Woods grace, overlooking the roofs of Night's Sacred Ground. Stay in the woods rather than jumping onto those roofs for the shaman outfit.
4. From Ancestral Woods, head northwest through the woodland toward the cliff overlooking the flooded ruins. Stay in the woods rather than dropping onto the city roofs below.
5. Find the two Ancestral Follower Shamans surrounded by rats near that cliff. Draw away the rats, defeat these two shamans and collect their glowing drops.
6. Rest at Ancestral Woods to repeat. Each selected shaman has a 20% base drop chance at 100 Discovery; the singing shaman at the smaller shrine and other followers do not share this butterfly drop.

Abandoned Merchant behind the wooden scaffolding

Siofra River

Starting Site of Grace: Worshippers' Woods

Before you go

• Have 1,500 runes per item.

1. Take the lift in Siofra River Well beside the Minor Erdtree in Mistwood. From the underground grace, travel northeast through the ruins to the second lift.
2. Ride up and follow the stream east into the large open cavern. Activate Siofra River Bank on the left, then head north through the basin to Worshippers' Woods.
3. Look southwest of Worshippers' Woods for tall wooden scaffolding around the stone ruins. Approach the wooden structure and climb the stairs to its ladder.
4. Climb onto the scaffolding and deal with the ancestral followers above. Follow the lower wooden walkway northwest around the pillar and into the cliffside passage beneath the waterfall.
5. Drop down at the end into the merchant's room. The music helps confirm you are close; he is hidden behind the ruins rather than standing on the open river bank.
6. Buy up to five Nascent Butterflies for 1,500 runes each from the Abandoned Merchant. The two cookbooks and other materials in his shop are separate purchases.

Notes

• Used in Dappled Cured Meat and Dappled White Cured Meat. Each craft spends one butterfly, and the two foods have their own effects and durations.
• Butterflies gathered from the world are finite for the journey. Resting does not refill them.
• Two specific Ancestral Follower Shamans surrounded by rats in northwestern Ancestral Woods have a 20% base drop chance at 100 Discovery. Their drops make a renewable alternative to world clusters.
• Other shamans do not automatically share the butterfly roll. The singing shaman associated with Shining Horned Headband is a different target from these two.
• The Abandoned Merchant in Siofra River sells five for 1,500 runes each. The shop is reached through the wooden scaffolding, and the stock stays limited after resting or handing in his bearing.
• The farm needs access to Nokron after Radahn, but no ancestral brazier puzzle or Regal Ancestor Spirit victory. The lower Siofra merchant can be reached earlier without Radahn.
