Night’s Cavalry (Road south of the Swamp of Aeonia)
This nighttime patrol uses a flail from horseback. Use the road’s open space to keep its attacks and turning path in view.

Starting Site of Grace: Southern Aeonia Swamp Bank
Before you go
Fight the southern Caelid rider at night.
From eastern Limgrave, follow the road beyond Summonwater Village into Caelid. Stay on the highway as it curves south around the Swamp of Aeonia toward Caelid Highway South.
Follow Caelid's main highway along the southern edge of the Swamp of Aeonia.
From Caelid Highway South, continue southeast along the road toward the junction below the swamp.
Activate Southern Aeonia Swamp Bank and pass time until night. Return to the main road south of the swamp near the map stele, northeast of Cathedral of Dragon Communion.
Find the flail-wielding Night's Cavalry patrolling that southern road. Defeat the rider, not just its horse, to receive Poison Moth Flight. No dragon altar purchase is involved.
If you die and return during daylight, pass time until night again. The distant rider on the Dragonbarrow bridge gives a different Ash.

Notes
This victory gives Poison Moth Flight. The Ash’s poison effect is the reward, rather than evidence that every attack used by this rider inflicts Poison.
The flail can build Blood Loss. Keep room to withdraw and heal instead of absorbing several hits in a row.
Stay on the southern road near the map stele. The rider on the bridge beside Lenne’s Rise gives a different Ash.
These riders appear at night. If the road is empty after you die, rest at a grace and pass time until night again before returning.
The horse and rider are separate targets. Bringing down the horse can knock the rider onto the ground, but killing only the mount does not award the encounter’s reward.
Use the dismount opening to attack the rider, then watch for the weapon being held upright. The rider can summon a replacement horse with an area attack around the mounting point.
The long weapon can still reach you as the horse passes. Turn to keep the rider visible rather than chasing directly behind it through another sweeping attack.
