Before you go

1. Take the lift in Siofra River Well beside the Minor Erdtree in Mistwood. From the underground grace, travel northeast through the ruins to the second lift.
2. Ride up and follow the stream east into the large open cavern. Activate Siofra River Bank on the left, then head north through the basin to Worshippers' Woods.
3. Look southwest of Worshippers' Woods for tall wooden scaffolding around the stone ruins. Approach the wooden structure and climb the stairs to its ladder.
4. Climb onto the scaffolding and deal with the ancestral followers above. Follow the lower wooden walkway northwest around the pillar and into the cliffside passage beneath the waterfall.
5. Drop down at the end into the merchant's room. The music helps confirm you are close; he is hidden behind the ruins rather than standing on the open river bank.
6. Buy the cookbook from the Abandoned Merchant for 1,000 runes. You can also buy the other cookbook here, but each is a separate purchase.

Notes

• Unlocks Oil Pots, Roped Oil Pots and Soap.
• The book unlocks its recipes without being equipped or consumed. You also need the Crafting Kit from Kalé at the Church of Elleh to use Item Crafting.
• You keep the book and its recipes in later Journeys. Its number identifies the contents rather than a required collection order.
• Oil Pot: each craft makes 1, using 1 Melted Mushroom.
• Roped Oil Pot: each craft makes 1, using 1 Melted Mushroom and 1 String.
• Soap: each craft makes 1, using 2 Melted Mushroom.
• Oil increases the damage of a following fire hit. It is also useful when Alexander needs lubrication after becoming stuck in Liurnia.
• Both oil recipes need an available Cracked Pot. The roped version is thrown behind you and also spends String.
• Soap cleans lingering poison or rot coatings from your body after contact with a swamp. It does not cure an already active Scarlet Rot ailment.
• The merchant sells one copy of each cookbook. Buying this one does not include the much more expensive second book beside it.
