Putrid Avatar (Western Caelid)
The Putrid Avatar below the western Caelid tree adds Scarlet Rot to the familiar Avatar fight.
Location and access
Minor Erdtree near Smoldering Church
Putrid Avatar (Western Caelid)
Northwestern Minor Erdtree
Starting Site of Grace: Smoldering Church
Start at the Smoldering Church on the border between Limgrave and Caelid. Head east toward the nearby Minor Erdtree, then follow the ground down to its base.
Defeat the Putrid Avatar beneath the tree. Watch for the Scarlet Rot left by its attacks and move away from the pools rather than standing in them.
The reward includes both Greenburst Crystal Tear and Flame-Shrouding Cracked Tear. This is the western Caelid tree, not the stronger Avatar in Dragonbarrow.
HP and damage negation
Values below are for solo play on the first playthrough. HP is maximum health. Temporary protection and other state changes are explained in the notes.

Notes
It awards Greenburst Crystal Tear and Flame-Shrouding Cracked Tear. This is the tree near Smoldering Church, rather than the Dragonbarrow tree.
Its jumping slam spreads rot over the ground. Move to clear ground before returning to attack.
Riding Torrent does not prevent Scarlet Rot buildup from the affected area. Keep out of it even if you are fighting on horseback.
The nearby Minor Erdtree Catacombs contains the two Burial Watchdogs. Their reward is separate from this field encounter.
The grace at Smoldering Church gives you a nearby return point. There is no quest or nighttime requirement for the Avatar.
