About this item

Red-hot whetblade with a cipher engraved. Can be used as a whetstone knife.

When applying an affinity using physical or flame-type ashes of war, an additional affinity of fire or flame art can be chosen.

Starting Site of Grace: Chamber Outside the Plaza

1. Visit Redmane Castle while the Radahn Festival is inactive. If the festival has begun, finish Radahn, speak to Jerren afterward and reload until the castle returns to its normal enemy layout.
2. From Chamber Outside the Plaza, return toward the western castle buildings and find the route past the Abductor Virgin.
3. Enter the building northwest of the grace that is locked during the festival and loot the whetblade from the corpse.

Notes

• Adds Fire and Flame Art affinities to compatible Ashes of War.
• Fire favors Strength, while Flame Art favors Faith. Both add fire damage, but they support different builds.
• The pickup room is closed during the festival layout. That is a temporary access restriction rather than proof that the item has vanished.
• The whetblade is permanent and is not spent when you change a weapon's affinity.
• Its extra choices work with physical Ashes and compatible fire or flame-art Ashes. Owning it does not turn a magic or lightning Ash into a fire skill.
• Fire and Flame Art normally prevent grease and ordinary weapon enchantments. Skills such as Flaming Strike can apply their own coating under their own rules.
• Defeating Rykard is not required to obtain this whetblade. Its access issue is Redmane Castle's festival layout, not Volcano Manor progression.
• The knife or whetblade carries into later Journeys. Changing an affinity does not spend it, and you do not need another copy for a second weapon.
