About this crafting material

Used for Preserving Boluses and Bewitching Branches. Each finished item spends one bud; the boluses cure Scarlet Rot, while the branch has a separate enemy-charm effect.

Preserving Boluses also need two Dewkissed Herba and one Crystal Cave Moss. Bewitching Branch instead pairs the bud with a Miquella's Lily. Their recipes need Armorer's Cookbook (6) and Fevor's Cookbook (3) respectively.

Gathered buds do not regrow after resting. Church of the Plague, Writheblood Ruins and the Amber Starlight clearing provide finite plants, even where enemies nearby return.

Where to find

Ground around the Church of the Plague

Caelid

Starting Site of Grace: Church of the Plague

  1. Reach Sellia in eastern Caelid through Sellia Gateway from the southern highway. The route below opens the upper town seal; helping Gowry and curing Millicent are separate from gathering the buds.
  2. Continue north into Sellia, Town of Sorcery. Activate Sellia Under-Stair on the southwestern edge and follow the main street north, watching for sorcerers appearing beside the buildings.
  3. Climb the stairs at the far end toward the golden sapling and the sealed upper gate. The large roots beside these steps provide the way onto the roofs.
  4. Near the sapling, look southwest through the broken railing for a root leading toward the nearest candle tower. Follow it, climb the tower ladder and interact with the flame at the top.
  5. Return to the upper steps and use the root again, this time stepping onto the adjoining roofs. Work south and east across the roofs and branches toward the eastern tower. Use Torrent's double jump for the gaps and climb the ladder to light its flame.
  6. From that eastern roof route, head back across the connecting roots and roofs toward the southern tower on the western side. The narrow approach has a corpse with a Stonesword Key. Climb the ladder and light the third flame.
  7. Take the now-open upper gate beside the golden sapling to Sellia Backstreets grace. Follow the uphill road beyond town, watching for the rolling boulders and the enemies on the bends.
  8. At the top, go to Church of the Plague on the eastern cliff. Watch for the two Kindred of Rot outside, enter through the broken wall and activate the grace.
  9. Collect the small red buds inside and around Church of the Plague, avoiding the two Pests outside. Millicent is not an enemy and does not need to be attacked.
  10. The gathered buds do not return after resting. The Altus enemy routes below are repeatable alternatives.

Rotten Strays in Writheblood Ruins

Altus Plateau

Starting Site of Grace: Bridge of Iniquity

  1. Reach Altus Plateau by the complete Dectus Medallion or Ruin-Strewn Precipice. Follow the road north toward Forest-Spanning Greatbridge and use the nearby sending gate to its northern end, then follow the western road toward Bridge of Iniquity.
  2. From Bridge of Iniquity, head east to Writheblood Ruins, the broken buildings occupied by bloody slimes and Rotten Strays.
  3. Fight the dogs around the ruined walls one at a time and collect any drops. Their attacks can build up blood loss, so avoid being surrounded.
  4. Rest at a grace and repeat. The dogs return, but a Sacramental Bud is a rare drop rather than a guaranteed reward.

Small Land Octopuses in the Amber Starlight alcove

Altus Plateau

Starting Site of Grace: Altus Highway Junction

  1. From Altus Highway Junction, follow the northern road a short way and look east for the narrow path into a sheltered canyon below the cliffs.
  2. Follow the canyon through its narrow opening to the statue with Amber Starlight at its base. The small Land Octopuses in this enclosed clearing are the selected farming targets.
  3. Defeat them, collect their glowing drops and return to the junction grace to repeat. They have a 3% base bud drop chance at 100 Discovery. The buds growing around the statue are separate finite pickups.
  4. The Amber Starlight pickup and Seluvis's quest are unnecessary for the drop. Other small octopuses elsewhere do not all have the same material roll.

Notes

  • Used for Preserving Boluses and Bewitching Branches. Each finished item spends one bud; the boluses cure Scarlet Rot, while the branch has a separate enemy-charm effect.
  • Preserving Boluses also need two Dewkissed Herba and one Crystal Cave Moss. Bewitching Branch instead pairs the bud with a Miquella's Lily. Their recipes need Armorer's Cookbook (6) and Fevor's Cookbook (3) respectively.
  • Gathered buds do not regrow after resting. Church of the Plague, Writheblood Ruins and the Amber Starlight clearing provide finite plants, even where enemies nearby return.
  • The selected Rotten Strays at Writheblood Ruins and small Land Octopuses in the Amber Starlight alcove offer repeatable drops. The alcove octopuses have a 3% base chance at 100 Discovery.
  • Do not treat every dog or octopus as the same farm. These are specific enemy drop lists; ordinary animals elsewhere can supply other materials without ever dropping a bud.
  • The Sanguine Noble cellar fight is unnecessary for the Writheblood dog loop. Amber Starlight and Seluvis's quest are unnecessary for the separate octopus loop.
  • Millicent is not an enemy and does not need to be killed for the flowers at Church of the Plague. Gather the surrounding buds without attacking her.
