About this item

Sanctified whetblade with a cipher engraved. Can be used as a whetstone knife.

When applying an affinity using physical or golden-type ashes of war, an additional affinity of sacred or lightning can be chosen.

Upper floor of Fortified Manor

Leyndell, Royal Capital

Starting Site of Grace: West Capital Rampart

Before you go

• Collect before defeating Maliketh.

1. Reach West Capital Rampart while Leyndell is still the Royal Capital. Leave the grace room and use the broken wall beside the stairs to drop onto the lower walkway.
2. Continue toward Fortified Manor, the large building resembling Roundtable Hold. Go around to the small roofs against its side rather than searching only the ground-floor door.
3. Use the roofs and wooden platforms to reach the opening into the manor's upper floor.
4. Inside, find the hallway matching Hewg's smithing area in Roundtable Hold. Collect Sanctified Whetblade from the pickup beside the Hammer.
5. Collect this before defeating Maliketh. The later Ashen Capital state removes access to the ordinary manor rooms.

Notes

• Adds Lightning and Sacred affinities to compatible Ashes of War.
• Lightning affinity favors Dexterity, while Sacred favors Faith. Choosing Lightning does not make ordinary weapon damage scale with Faith like most lightning incantations.
• This pickup becomes unavailable when Maliketh's defeat changes Leyndell. Collect it before that transition.
• The whetblade is permanent. It does not need to be replaced after each affinity change.
• Its Lightning and Sacred choices work with physical Ashes and compatible lightning or sacred Ashes. It does not remove the chosen Ash's elemental restrictions.
• Lightning affinity adds lightning damage and Dexterity scaling; Sacred adds Holy damage and Faith scaling. Neither affinity by itself gives an otherwise unbuffable weapon permission to use grease.
• The nearby Hammer and the whetblade are separate pickups. Collect both before the capital changes if you want both items.
• The knife or whetblade carries into later Journeys. Changing an affinity does not spend it, and you do not need another copy for a second weapon.
