Travel to Roundtable Hold after Melina invites you.
From the central table, follow the hammering into the side passage. Hewg is chained beside the anvil; Roderika later sits across from him.
Quest steps
Quest steps can include different outcomes. Read the branch, conditions and cutoffs before making a choice.
Use the smith
Branch: Main quest
Choose Strengthen Armament and bring the required runes and smithing materials. Ordinary armaments use Smithing Stones; special armaments use Somber Smithing Stones.
Help Roderika
Branch: Main quest
Once Roderika reaches the Hold, ask him about her. Carry his answer back to her, then return and ask him to watch over her. Continue their dialogue and rest until she begins Spirit Tuning.
Return as the story advances
Branch: Main quest
Speak to Hewg again as the Hold changes. He refuses to leave and later loses his memory, but his smithing services remain available.

Details
Armament strengthening
Pay the material and rune cost.
Ordinary weapons can reach +25 and special weapons +10, using the appropriate Ancient Dragon stone for the last level.
Ash of War duplication
Give Hewg Lost Ashes of War and choose an eligible ash to duplicate.
Each duplication consumes one Lost Ashes of War. This does not copy an entire weapon.
Roderika’s apprenticeship
Complete their shared conversations.
Spirit Tuning is Roderika’s service after she learns it, not a new weapon-upgrade menu at Hewg.
Notes
The Church of Elleh smithing table only handles early reinforcement. Hewg can continue beyond that table’s limit.
Can use compatible Ashes of War is an armament restriction. Hewg cannot replace a fixed unique skill simply because he offers the Ashes of War menu.
Duplicating an ash creates another transferable copy. It does not duplicate its equipped armament or raise the armament’s upgrade level.
The burning Hold does not remove his upgrade service. His later dialogue and memory loss are story changes.
You do not need to kill Hewg or find another blacksmith to finish upgrading a weapon after the late story events.
