Soldier of Godrick

The soldier at the end of the Cave of Knowledge is the tutorial’s final fight. Use it to practise guarding and counterattacks before heading into Limgrave.

Starting Site of Grace: Cave of Knowledge

After waking in Stranded Graveyard, find the seated spirit beside the deep opening. Drop onto the ledges into the Cave of Knowledge rather than taking the stairs straight to the main exit.
Activate the grace and follow the tutorial chambers, reading the prompts for movement, guarding and combat. The path leads to the small boss fog at the far end.
Enter the fog to face Soldier of Godrick. The exit beyond him loops back toward Stranded Graveyard; the lift near the main exit leads outside to the First Step.

Notes

This tutorial is optional. You can leave Stranded Graveyard through its main lift and return later if you skipped the cave.
Let an incoming sword hit meet your guard, then use a heavy attack immediately afterward for a guard counter. Use your own control bindings rather than assuming a particular controller button.
Blocking spends stamina. Keep enough left to respond, and lower your guard between attacks so the stamina bar can recover.
Wait until his attack sequence has finished before countering. A guard counter does not make you immune to a second swing.
A stance break gives a short critical-attack opening. Move close to his front and use a light attack rather than swinging from outside its reach.
He is separate from Godrick the Grafted in Stormveil. Clearing this tutorial does not grant a Great Rune or complete the castle.
