Before you go

  • Have 2,000 runes.
  1. Follow western Liurnia's road north through Kingsrealm Ruins. Strike the false wall closing the road at the northern end of the ruins.
  2. Continue to Road to the Manor and speak to the large seated smith, Iji, beside the anvil.
  3. Buy Somber Smithing Stone [1] for 2,000 runes. This rank is sold without a stock limit. You do not need to complete Ranni's quest or kill him to use the shop.

Sellia Crystal Tunnel bell-bearing unlock

Caelid

Starting Site of Grace: Sellia Crystal Tunnel

Before you go

  • Defeat the Fallingstar Beast in Sellia Crystal Tunnel.
  1. Enter Sellia Crystal Tunnel from the cliff north of the Swamp of Aeonia. If the Dragon-Burnt Ruins chest trapped you here, leave the wooden shack and go downhill to the entrance grace first; you do not have to defeat the boss to escape.
  2. From the grace, climb the ladder and enter the main mining cavern. Go up the rocky path on the right, watching for the pests firing from the wooden huts.
  3. Climb onto the hut roof and jump to the higher wooden platform to get past the broken building blocking the uphill path. Follow the tunnel beyond it and climb the ladder.
  4. The passage brings you back above the main cavern. Cross the plank bridge and climb the next ladder beside the upper hut. The Rock Blaster chest inside that hut is optional.
  5. Kick down the nearby shortcut ladder before continuing. Take the westward tunnel through the wooden arch, watching for the pest hidden beside the glowing corpse.
  6. Continue past the room with the two pests and the Faithful's Canvas Talisman pickup. The passage to the west ends at the wooden boss doors.
  7. Defeat the Fallingstar Beast to receive Somberstone Miner's Bell Bearing [1]. Give it to the Twin Maiden Husks to unlock the stone purchases. Buy Somber Smithing Stone [1] for 2,000 runes each.

Notes

  • One stone upgrades a compatible special armament from +0 to +1, plus the blacksmith's rune fee. Each Somber rank uses one stone rather than the ordinary path's 2, 4 and 6 pattern.
  • Somberstone Miner's Bell Bearing [1] from Sellia Crystal Tunnel unlocks unlimited purchases at 2,000 runes each from the Twin Maiden Husks.
  • Iji also sells this rank for 2,000 runes with unlimited stock. Buying it does not require completing Ranni's quest or killing him.
  • Ordinary Smithing Stones with the same number are not substitutes. The material family is set by the weapon's upgrade path, rather than whether you like its skill or appearance.
  • This is the first Somber upgrade, so no earlier Somber rank is required. Bring the weapon and stone to Hewg or Iji for smithing.
  • The handed-in Somberstone bearing preserves its upgrade-material shop in later Journeys. Fixed world pickups remain one-time collections within the current Journey.
