Whetstone with a cipher inscription, made to look like a small knifeblade.

Allows the use of ashes of war at a site of grace to bestow new battle arts and affinities to armaments as skills.

The battle arts and affinities will depend on the ashes of war used.

Starting Site of Grace: Gatefront

1. From the Church of Elleh, follow the road north to Gatefront Ruins.
2. Search the southern part of the soldier camp for the stairwell descending underground. Clear nearby soldiers before opening your inventory.
3. Go down and open the chest for Whetstone Knife and Ash of War: Storm Stomp.

Notes

• Unlocks changing Ashes of War at a Site of Grace.
• The Ash you choose still has weapon-type restrictions. Unique weapons with fixed skills generally cannot use a transferable Ash of War.
• Additional whetblades unlock more affinity choices, but do not remove compatibility restrictions.
• Changing an Ash does not destroy the old one. The permanent knife itself is not consumed.
• At a grace, choose Ashes of War, select the weapon, choose a compatible Ash and then choose its affinity. Changing the affinity changes damage and scaling separately from choosing the skill.
• Each Ash can be equipped on one weapon at a time unless you have another copy. Lost Ashes of War can duplicate a transferable Ash through Hewg; they are not needed every time you move an Ash between weapons.
• The knife or whetblade carries into later Journeys. Changing an affinity does not spend it, and you do not need another copy for a second weapon.
