Effects
Halves incoming physical, magic, fire, lightning and holy damage while HP is below 20% of maximum. The reduction is the same against enemies and other players.
You must already be below the threshold when the hit lands. It does not halve the hit that first takes you from healthy to low HP.
The effect does not heal you or stop a status buildup bar from filling. It is a low-health damage reduction, rather than a cure or a way to survive every lethal effect.

In-game description
A talisman adorned with blue feathers, once used in ancient death rituals.
Raises defense when HP is low.
The heart sings when one draws close to death, and thus does one cling so tenaciously to life—to render up a death worth offering.
Where to find
Deathbird east of Warmaster's Shack
Limgrave
Starting Site of Grace: Warmaster's Shack
Before you go
- Follow the road northeast from Stormhill Shack to Warmaster's Shack. Activate its grace and pass time until night. You do not need to buy anything from Bernahl for the Deathbird.
- Leave the shack and head southeast, dropping the short ledge into the open field patrolled by trolls. Keep away from their feet as you approach the collapsed stone ruins.
- Walk onto the broken ruins covered in Ruin Fragments and Sanctuary Stones. The Deathbird appears here at night; it is not the nighttime boss inside the shack.
- Keep the fight away from nearby trolls so they do not join in. Defeat this Deathbird to receive Blue-Feathered Branchsword directly.
Notes
- Halves incoming physical, magic, fire, lightning and holy damage while HP is below 20% of maximum. The reduction is the same against enemies and other players.
- You must already be below the threshold when the hit lands. It does not halve the hit that first takes you from healthy to low HP.
- The effect does not heal you or stop a status buildup bar from filling. It is a low-health damage reduction, rather than a cure or a way to survive every lethal effect.
- Healing above the threshold switches the protection off. It becomes active again if HP falls low enough later.
- Can be worn with Red-Feathered Branchsword for separate low-HP defense and attack bonuses. Staying that low still leaves little room for error, and a sufficiently strong hit can kill you through the reduction.
- The Deathbird near Warmaster's Shack awards it at night. The Bell Bearing Hunter inside the shack is a different encounter and does not drop this talisman.
