About this item

Use its dialogue choice on Fire Knight Queelign at the end of his Prayer Room encounter to receive Queelign's Greatsword. Iris of Grace gives his Spirit Ash instead.

After completing Count Ymir's quest and defeating Jolan, return to her final position in Cathedral of Manus Metyr. Giving this iris through her dialogue awards Sword of Night; Iris of Grace gives Swordhand of Night Jolan instead.

Each character has one iris outcome per journey. You cannot give Occultation and then Grace to the same character to collect both the weapon and Spirit Ash.

In-game description

An iris that is as dark as night.

Place on the eye of another to deny them light in all its forms.

Can also be used to receive the blessing of an equipped Great Rune, at the cost of all runes currently held.

In the realm of shadow, this artifice was employed by the priests of the Erdtree to intensify the fears of their flock to magnificent effect.

Where to find

Omenkiller in the Fort of Reprimand corpse pit

Scadu Altus

Starting Site of Grace: Fort of Reprimand

Before you go

  • Enter the Realm of Shadow.
  1. From Moorth Ruins in Scadu Altus, follow the highway south. Ride around the soldiers fighting the Ghostflame Dragon and continue through the passage at the southern end of their battlefield.
  2. Activate Moorth Highway, South grace in front of Fort of Reprimand, then enter the fort's main gate. Deal with the courtyard Omenkiller or draw it away before exploring the gallows and doorways.
  3. Find the open square chute in the northern part of the courtyard, beside the gallows. Drop to the first ledge inside rather than trying to clear the whole shaft in one jump.
  4. Drop farther into the corpse room. The Omenkiller waits around the left corner beside the bodies; defeat it to receive the Iris of Occultation. The courtyard Omenkiller and Black Knight Edredd give different rewards.

Northern Ulcerated Tree Spirit in the drained Church District

Shadow Keep

Starting Site of Grace: Sunken Chapel

Before you go

  • Drain the Church District.
  1. From Highroad Cross in Scadu Altus, follow the road east to Moorth Ruins and activate the grace beside the cross.
  2. Pass through the large stone arch east-southeast of the grace. At the house ahead, turn left toward the leaning tower. Avoid the large open shaft behind the house, which is too deep for a direct drop.
  3. Find the smaller gap between the broken building and the rock wall in front of the leaning tower. Drop onto the balcony-like ledge, turn right past the dogs and follow the cave inward.
  4. In the open chamber at the end, take the back-left ledges down onto the lower roof. Look for the small shrine guarded by three Inquisitors and collect Golden Arcs from the chest inside.
  5. To continue east, drop from the lower roof to the ground and take the cave beside the building on the left. Follow it to the long ladder and climb out of the well at Bonny Village grace.
  6. Go east through Bonny Village, watching for the large cleaver-wielding villagers, and cross the two suspension bridges. The second brings you to Bridge Leading to the Village grace.
  7. Follow the road north through the woods to Church District Highroad grace. Take the northwestern road through the entrance tunnel and activate Church District Entrance inside Shadow Keep. This eastern entrance leads to the flooded district, rather than the main-gate Hippopotamus arena.
  8. Jump from the entrance ledge onto the first roof below. Follow its northwestern edge and jump from the raised roof section to the stone wall opposite, rather than taking the southwestern log platforms toward different loot.
  9. Follow the wall around and climb its northeastern rise. Jump to the next roof northwest, where a Fire Knight patrols. Clear it or make enough room to continue safely.
  10. Cross toward the next large church and jump onto the sloping stone support on your left. Walk southwest up that support to the high roof, then use the broken roof opening to drop onto the central beam below.
  11. Follow the beam to the adjoining upper corridor and drop through the opening in its floor onto the raised church passage. Stay above the water and continue northwest; the Prayer Room door is a separate side destination.
  12. Pass the small side room holding a Rune of an Unsung Hero and continue into the corridor patrolled by two Fire Knights. The first left exit leads toward the drainage wheel, while the later left exit leads to the Storehouse lift.
  13. Take the first left exit and cross the small bridge outside. Clear the bats, go up the steps and jump the narrow gap in the walkway before the tall lamp.
  14. Climb the ladder to the large wheel and operate it from the side to drain the district. This permanently opens the lower ground for the current journey.
  15. Climb back down and use the nearby doorway and lower platforms to descend to the exposed ground. Enter the small chapel nearby and activate Sunken Chapel grace.
  16. From Sunken Chapel, explore the exposed northern courtyard. Approach the area where the northern Ulcerated Tree Spirit erupts and defeat it for Iris of Occultation.
  17. Two Tree Spirits appear in the drained district. This iris comes from the northern one, rather than the other Tree Spirit's reward or the altar farther down Tree-Worship Passage.

Notes

  • Use its dialogue choice on Fire Knight Queelign at the end of his Prayer Room encounter to receive Queelign's Greatsword. Iris of Grace gives his Spirit Ash instead.
  • After completing Count Ymir's quest and defeating Jolan, return to her final position in Cathedral of Manus Metyr. Giving this iris through her dialogue awards Sword of Night; Iris of Grace gives Swordhand of Night Jolan instead.
  • Each character has one iris outcome per journey. You cannot give Occultation and then Grace to the same character to collect both the weapon and Spirit Ash.
  • Two fixed Irises of Occultation are available, so you can choose the weapon outcome for both characters. Obtain both before spending either through the direct inventory Use command.
  • Direct use consumes the iris, removes all runes you currently carry and activates the blessing of an equipped usable Great Rune. It does not secretly complete either NPC handover.
  • Use the named dialogue option while speaking to the character if you want a quest reward. Do not select Use from the inventory simply because you are standing beside them.
  • The Fort of Reprimand copy is an Omenkiller drop in the corpse pit. It is not just a loose iris beside the bodies, and killing the courtyard Omenkiller or Black Knight Edredd gives different rewards.
  • The other copy comes from the northern Ulcerated Tree Spirit after draining Shadow Keep's Church District. Draining the water itself does not automatically give it to you.
