In-game description
A fetid, overgrown cyst taken from facial flesh.
Greatly raises vitality.
(Vitality governs resistance to the effects of Death.)
It is said that this cyst came from the corrupted visage of one unable to die a true Death. Indeed, it comes from the Prince of Death, scion of the golden bough and First of the Dead among the demigods.
Where to find
Runebear in the waterfall cave
Deeproot Depths
Starting Site of Grace: The Nameless Eternal City
Before you go
- Defeat Starscourge Radahn at the Radahn Festival in Redmane Castle. His defeat opens the starfall crater in Limgrave; it is not the sealed Siofra River overlook reached from the Four Belfries.
- Return to the Mistwood near Fort Haight and find the new crater marked by floating rocks. Use the descending ledges and openings to enter Nokron, Eternal City.
- Follow the rooftops down into Nokron's streets, then continue to the Mimic Tear boss. Defeat it and cross the long bridge beyond the arena.
- Leave the bridge on the left where it opens into woodland. Follow the western cliff to Ancestral Woods grace, overlooking the lower rooftops.
- From the upper woodland, go toward the trees beside Hallowhorn Grounds and the Spirit Jellyfish along the northern cliff. Use the lower ledge below the edge, then follow the descending path into the cave to Aqueduct-Facing Cliffs grace. You do not need to light the ancestor pillars.
- Leave the cave toward the aqueduct. Drop onto the stone support leading to the building, then onto the lower ledge. A Crucible Knight patrols nearby, so wait for an opening before moving across.
- Continue toward the building with water pouring out. Another Crucible Knight stands by the waterfall. Go north through the water channel, turn into the area on the right and climb the stairs through the arch. D's twin sits near this approach to the boss.
- Defeat both Valiant Gargoyles. Afterward, activate Great Waterfall Basin grace and rest in the coffin beside the waterfall to reach Deeproot Depths.
- From Great Waterfall Crest, head west onto the huge roots. Use the root descending on the left to cross the gap, then continue west past the giant ants to Deeproot Depths grace beside the Finger Reader. The Erdtree Avatar and the ant cave are optional detours.
- Head north into the shallow water and ruins. The map is in the gazebo. Continue west beneath the large root and past the ghostly soldiers to The Nameless Eternal City grace beside an arch.
- From The Nameless Eternal City, go northeast under the large roots toward the path bordered by bushes. An immobile broken gargoyle statue breathes explosive powder along the main approach.
- Leave that path through the bushes on the eastern side, watching for Basilisks. Follow the cliff edge north to the waterfall and enter the small cave hidden behind it.
- Defeat the Runebear inside for Prince of Death's Cyst. This is a guaranteed reward from that particular bear, rather than a random drop shared by every Runebear.
- Fia's Champions and Lichdragon Fortissax are farther along separate routes. Neither needs to be defeated for this talisman.
Notes
- Adds 140 Vitality, increasing the buildup needed for Death Blight to trigger. Vitality here is a resistance stat, not maximum HP.
- A full Death Blight bar still kills you. This gives more buildup room rather than immunity to the ailment or its instant-death effect.
- It does not remove existing buildup, cure another ailment or provide ordinary physical and elemental damage negation.
- Cannot be equipped with Prince of Death's Pustule. The Cyst is the stronger of the two and does not require the Pustule to obtain it.
- The waterfall-cave Runebear in Deeproot Depths drops it. A normal Runebear elsewhere does not share that guaranteed talisman reward.
- Fia's ending, Fortissax and the Champions encounter are not required for this bear's drop. Leave space near the cave entrance if you need room to retreat.
- Its 140 points are a flat resistance increase, not 140% protection or extra HP. Compatible armor and other Vitality effects can raise the threshold further.
- The name does not give your weapon Death Blight or improve attacks themed around death. It only helps your own resistance to that specific buildup.
- Weighs 0.6, the same as the weaker Pustule. Neither talisman cures the buildup already accumulated.
