In-game description
A soft but sturdy cotton formed from splitting open Rowa fruit in a particular manner.
Craftable item.
Attaching this cotton to the bottom of one's feet allows for a temporary reduction in fall damage and sound. It also reduces the sound of one's footsteps.
If you must court danger, at the very least, tread lightly.

Before you go

- Ingredients per batch: 3 Rowa Fruit and 1 Smoldering Butterfly
- From Stormhill Shack, follow the road north toward the broken bridge east of Stormveil Castle.
- Pass the Finger Reader Crone and walk toward the collapsed end.
- Check the corpse at the bridge's edge and loot the cookbook.
- The route around Stormveil continues below the bridge, but the book is on the bridge itself.
- Buy the Crafting Kit from Kalé for 300 runes if Item Crafting is unavailable.
- Collect 3 Rowa Fruit, 1 Smoldering Butterfly. Outside combat, open Item Crafting and choose Soft Cotton. One craft makes 1.
Notes
- For 20 seconds, quietens your movement and prevents damage from falls that would otherwise be survivable. Apply it before a descent or a quiet approach, rather than after stepping off the ledge.
- It does not increase the height you can survive. A fatal drop still kills you, including drops into a death barrier, so follow the ledges or intended path down.
- Quieter footsteps help when moving behind enemies, but do not make you invisible. Enemies can still see you and react to attacks.
- The short duration makes it useful for a particular approach or descent. Reusing it renews the effect rather than adding another 20 seconds to a running total.
- Three Rowa Fruit and one Smoldering Butterfly make one. Nomadic Warrior's Cookbook [7] unlocks the recipe from the corpse on the broken bridge north of Stormhill Shack; you do not need to enter Stormveil.
- Using it consumes one and costs no FP. Carry up to 99, with another 600 in storage.
