In-game description
Incantation taught by Gurranq, the Beast Clergyman.
Swiftly flings a number of sharp rock shards.
This incantation can be cast without delay after performing another action.
It is said that in the time before the Erdtree, stones were the first weapons of the beasts who had gained intelligence.
Where to find
Bestial Sanctum
Greyoll's Dragonbarrow
Starting Site of Grace: Bestial Sanctum
Before you go
- Give Gurranq 2 Deathroot in total.
- For an early start, follow the road east from Saintsbridge to Summonwater Village in northeastern Limgrave. Defeat the boat-riding Tibia Mariner among the flooded ruins and collect its Deathroot.
- Find Third Church of Marika in eastern Limgrave. Search the vegetation beside the stream behind the church for the sending gate. D can mark it after you show him a Deathroot, but speaking to him is optional.
- Use the gate to reach Bestial Sanctum, enter the large doors behind the arrival point and activate the grace inside. The Black Blade Kindred outside does not need to be fought.
- Speak to Gurranq at the far end of the hall and hand over Deathroot. His rewards follow the total number delivered, regardless of which roots you collect first.
- Bring further Deathroot from Tibia Mariner rewards and the Deathroot chests behind dungeon bosses. Hand over 2 in total, then speak to Gurranq to receive Bestial Sling.
- Memorize the incantation at a grace and equip a sacred seal to cast it. The reward does not automatically replace one of your memorized spells.
Notes
- Requires 10 Faith, uses one memory slot and costs 7 FP per cast. It deals Standard Physical damage rather than Magic damage.
- Throws a quick spread of small stones at close range. At very short range, two separate contacts can hit the same enemy; the visible number of stones is not the number of full-damage hits you should expect.
- Each contact starts at 87% of incantation scaling before defenses. Two close hits are checked against defenses separately, so doubling that figure does not guarantee twice the health damage.
- It can be cast while jumping and is useful after another action or as a quick close-range follow-up. It cannot be charged, so Godfrey Icon does not improve it.
- Arrow's Reach Talisman extends its useful reach. This does not turn it into a homing attack or remove the loss of effective damage as the spread opens up.
- A contact deals 4 stance damage to enemies. Its quick startup is useful for pressure, but it does not guarantee that an armored enemy or another player will stagger.
- Gurranq teaches it after the second Deathroot you deliver. The second delivery can be any Deathroot; a particular dungeon's root is not reserved for this spell.
- Clawmark Seal or Cinquedea adds 10% damage while held in an active hand. Holding one of each gives 21% together. You still need a sacred seal to cast; carrying the dagger in an inactive slot does not supply the bonus.
- Its damage uses the casting seal's incantation scaling. Faith supports an ordinary Faith-scaling seal, while Clawmark Seal lets Strength and Faith contribute together. The spell does not gain Strength scaling merely because it throws a rock or claw.
- Physical attack bonuses such as Flame, Grant Me Strength can increase its damage. Magic, Fire and Lightning damage bonuses do not strengthen this Physical attack.
- Defeating Maliketh does not remove Gurranq's remaining Deathroot rewards at Bestial Sanctum. Killing Gurranq there does end the remaining hand-ins.
