• Defeat Royal Knight Loretta
• 2,500 runes

1. Defeat Royal Knight Loretta and leave Caria Manor toward the Three Sisters.
2. Turn left outside and follow the cliff above the manor until you see a blue flask scarab near the drop.
3. Use the roof and wooden platforms below to descend safely to the rooftop opening. Climb the ladder into Pidia's room.
4. Speak to Pidia and buy the cookbook for 2,500 runes.
5. If Pidia has already died during Ranni's quest, loot his bell bearing in the same room and offer it to the Twin Maiden Husks. His unbought cookbook is still available through that shop.
6. Buy the Crafting Kit from Kalé at Church of Elleh for 300 runes if Item Crafting is still locked. The cookbook alone does not unlock the crafting menu.
7. With the book and materials in your inventory, open Item Crafting outside combat and select Coldbone Bolt. One craft makes 10.

Notes

• One craft makes 10, using 2 Thin Beast Bones and 3 Rimed Crystal Bud. You keep the cookbook and Crafting Kit; only the ingredients are spent.
• Crossbow ammunition. Equip it in a bolt slot; bows, greatbows and ballista weapons use different ammunition.
• Adds 28 Physical and 23 Magic attack power to the shot. This is the ammunition contribution, before the ranged weapon, skill, distance and enemy defenses determine the actual damage.
• Has 65 base Frostbite buildup per ordinary hit, alongside its Physical and Magic damage. A susceptible enemy must accumulate enough buildup before the Frostbite burst occurs.
• An enemy already suffering Frostbite takes increased damage, but cannot immediately suffer another Frostbite burst. You can keep that penalty active or use Fire damage to clear it and build toward another burst.
• Frostbite buildup does not scale with Arcane, including with Serpent Bow. Ranged skills can also change the buildup applied by each projectile.
• Pidia sells the required book after Royal Knight Loretta. If he has died, his bell bearing transfers the unbought book to the Twin Maiden Husks rather than permanently removing this recipe.
• Carry up to 99 of this type. Crossbow bursts spend several bolts, so keep enough ammunition for the whole burst.
