In-game description

Incantation of the Two Fingers' servants, who once served as the assassins of the Roundtable Hold.

Creates a veil of darkness that conceals the caster.

This incantation can be cast while in motion or crouching.

The assassins were themselves once Tarnished who had strayed from guidance, and they pursued their duty in the darkness that is without grace.

Where to find

Basement behind the imp seals, then Church of Vows

Roundtable Hold

Starting Site of Grace: Table of Lost Grace

Before you go

  • Bring three Stonesword Keys if both seals are unopened.
  1. From the central room at Roundtable Hold, take the passage past Hewg the blacksmith and go downstairs.
  2. Find the imp statue beside the first fog barrier. Spend one Stonesword Key to open it.
  3. In the room beyond, find the second sealed doorway on the left. This barrier needs two more keys.
  4. Pass through the second barrier and open the chest for Assassin's Prayerbook.
  5. Travel to the Church of Vows on eastern Liurnia's raised ground. From the Artist's Shack, follow the road north and take the uphill branch to the ruined church.
  6. Give Assassin's Prayerbook to Miriel, the large turtle inside, then buy Darkness for 3,500 runes. The book unlocks his stock rather than giving you the spell for free.
  7. Corhyn can teach it instead if you give him the book. If your chosen teacher later dies, hand the teacher's bearing to the Twin Maiden Husks to recover already-unlocked stock. An unused book cannot be handed to the Husks.

Notes

  • Creates a short-lived cloud that makes susceptible ordinary enemies lose sight of you. Use that opening to move behind them, set up a backstab or leave a crowded passage.
  • Requires 18 Faith, one memory slot and a sacred seal, and costs 24 FP. It does not deal damage, so a higher Incant Scaling value does not improve its damage.
  • The cloud stays where you cast it rather than following you. Enemies need to be affected by the cloud; casting far away is not a general invisibility buff.
  • The affected enemy's sight is disrupted for roughly seven seconds. That is a short opening, so decide where you want to move before using it.
  • You can cast while moving or crouching. This helps during an approach, but the animation does not protect you from an attack that is already coming.
  • It does not silence your movement or make you invulnerable. Assassin's Approach handles movement noise, while Darkness is for disrupting an enemy's sight.
  • Do not rely on it to disable a boss or stop every enemy type. Keep an escape route available when using it around an unfamiliar opponent.
  • Buy it for 3,500 runes after handing over Assassin's Prayerbook. Confessor starts with Assassin's Approach, not Darkness.
