Starting Site of Grace: Fog Rift Catacombs

Before you go

  • To enter the Realm of Shadow, defeat Starscourge Radahn and Mohg, Lord of Blood, then touch the withered arm in Mohg's arena at Mohgwyn Palace.
  • Access the Realm of Shadow.
  1. From Castle Front, follow the road north beneath the fort's wooden structures into the foggy woodland. Continue past the Shadow Militiamen to the catacomb doors between two pale braziers. Enter, take the lift down, and activate the grace.
  2. Follow the passage past the first Imp. Approach each spike-ceiling room cautiously, trigger the ceiling from the doorway, then retreat. Cross only after it hits the floor and begins rising.
  3. Continue past the first trap and down the stairs to the next spike-ceiling chamber. Drop to its lower floor and move into the recess beneath the ledge. Time another crossing to reach the lift leading farther down.
  4. Follow the lower passage through the Imp rooms to the long hall with three falling ceiling sections. Move between the side alcoves one at a time as the traps rise. Do not drop into the hole in the second alcove.
  5. Reach the raised altar at the end and clear the enemies. Take the side passage from this end of the hall, cross its final spike-ceiling room, and ride the lift down to the boss door.
  6. Defeat the Death Knight to receive Death Knight's Twin Axes. Riding the large ceiling trap to the optional treasure rooms is not required for the boss reward.

Notes

  • Requires 14 Strength, 12 Dexterity and 16 Faith, and weighs 5.5. Strength contributes most to ordinary Physical damage, Dexterity contributes less, and Faith improves ordinary Lightning damage.
  • Two-handing draws the second axe. One copy provides the paired moveset, rather than requiring a second boss reward.
  • Blinkbolt: Twinaxe costs 8 FP for its forward lightning dash. A heavy attack adds the spinning axe sequence for 10 FP, making 18 FP for both parts.
  • The dash has independent Lightning damage that improves through Dexterity and upgrades. Raising Faith strengthens the axes’ ordinary Lightning damage, but does not replace Dexterity in this separate dash calculation.
  • The follow-up uses the axes’ Physical and Lightning attack power across six contacts. Connecting with only the opening spin gives less damage than landing the whole sequence.
  • The dash does not carry ordinary weapon status or deal stance damage. The axes have no innate Blood Loss, despite belonging to a Death Knight.
  • There is a brief invulnerable part during the dash, but it starts after the initial preparation. Pressing the skill at the last instant is not an immediate dodge.
  • Death Knight armor strengthens this Dragon Cult skill by 2% per piece. Shard of Alexander adds its separate skill bonus; Godfrey Icon does not apply because the skill cannot be charged.
  • The spinning follow-up travels forward and needs room. You can stop after the dash or use an ordinary attack instead of spending the extra FP.
  • The boss has attacks beyond the player version. Defeating him does not give every continuation seen in his own combo.
  • Uses Somber Smithing Stones to +10. Its skill and affinity are fixed, and grease or weapon enchantments cannot be applied.
  • Defeat the Death Knight in Fog Rift Catacombs. The optional ceiling ride for other treasures is not required to reach this boss.
