Starting Site of Grace: Stormfoot Catacombs

  1. From the Church of Elleh, ride northwest toward the low cliff and find the doorway to Stormfoot Catacombs. Enter and activate its grace.
  2. Follow the entrance stairs and check the first small side room for two Fanged Imps carrying forked hatchets. Approach carefully so their ambush does not trap you against the doorway.
  3. Defeat those imps, collect their drops and return to the entrance grace to rest. Repeat this short loop until the hatchet drops. The dungeon boss and the flame-trap corridors are unnecessary for the farm.

Notes

  • With Standard affinity, physical damage favors Dexterity over Strength. Keen emphasizes Dexterity. Occult gives Arcane scaling to the weapon and its existing bleed, while Standard and Keen have no Arcane scaling for Arcane to improve.
  • Has 50 innate blood loss buildup on Standard affinity. A full bleed meter triggers a burst of damage against susceptible enemies; the hatchet still needs ordinary damage against enemies immune to blood loss. Cold or Poison can add a second status while retaining a smaller innate bleed value.
  • Its one-handed and two-handed light attack chains are quicker than the regular axe chain. The blade is extremely short, so staying close matters more than the attack animation might suggest.
  • Normal light attacks deal Standard damage, while its other ordinary weapon attacks use Pierce damage. Those piercing hits can benefit from counterattack bonuses when they connect during an enemy's attack; that does not make every compatible skill a piercing attack.
  • Keen affinity slightly weakens the Dexterity contribution of skills whose damage is calculated separately from weapon attack power, including Beast's Roar and Thunderbolt. This is a skill-scaling exception, rather than a penalty to ordinary Keen hatchet hits.
  • Comes with Quickstep, costing 3 FP. Hold a direction to dodge that way, or use a sideways step while locked on to circle a target. It helps you reposition around the short reach, but repeated uses have less protection and it works poorly without the required FP.
  • Requires 9 Strength and 14 Dexterity, weighs only 2.5 and has a normal critical rating of 100.
  • Can use compatible Ashes of War and upgrades with Smithing Stones to +25. Grease or a weapon enchantment can be applied with Standard, Heavy, Keen or Quality affinity. Elemental and status affinities prevent ordinary weapon coatings.
  • Hatchet-carrying Fanged Imps have a 2% base drop chance at 100 Item Discovery. The weapon and the imp's other loot are separate possible drops; the enemy's own bleed attacks do not guarantee the hatchet.
