About this Ash of War

Costs 15 FP and creates a small decoy that lasts 5 seconds. It is a distraction rather than an attack, summonable combat ally or defensive barrier.

Use it close to a suitable humanoid enemy to draw attention away from a doorway or your intended approach. The apparition appears only a short distance ahead of you, unlike a long-range thrown spell.

Demi-Humans can be distracted even during combat. Enemy type and behavior matter; do not rely on it to control a boss or another player.

In-game description

This Ash of War grants an armament the Occult affinity and the following skill:

"White Shadow's Lure: Hold armament in a brief, silent prayer to create a white shadow. The apparition lures in foes of human build who are not in combat, drawing their aggression. Effective on demi-humans even if they are already in a combat state."

Usable on all melee armaments.

Where to find

Invisible scarab north of the frozen river

Consecrated Snowfield

Starting Site of Grace: Inner Consecrated Snowfield

Before you go

  • Obtain both halves of the Haligtree Secret Medallion.
  1. Obtain the right Haligtree Secret Medallion half from Albus in the Village of the Albinaurics. He is disguised as a pot on the uphill path, before the bridge leading toward the Omenkiller.
  2. Obtain the left half from the tower beyond Commander Niall at Castle Sol in the northern Mountaintops. After winning, continue behind his arena, ride the lift and loot the rooftop corpse.
  3. Return to Grand Lift of Rold with both halves and switch to the secret-medallion prompt. The ordinary Rold Medallion sends you to a different destination.
  4. Take the main stairs through Hidden Path to the Haligtree and leave into Consecrated Snowfield. Continue north through the blizzard, following the road toward Inner Consecrated Snowfield, then on to Ordina, Liturgical Town.
  5. Continue north out of the worst of the snowstorm and activate Inner Consecrated Snowfield.
  6. Head northwest across the frozen river, staying south of Ordina. Look for a pack of wolves chasing glowing tracks along the northern bank.
  7. Clear the wolves if needed, then stand ahead of the tracks and strike the invisible scarab as it reaches you. The kill awards White Shadow's Lure.

Notes

  • Costs 15 FP and creates a small decoy that lasts 5 seconds. It is a distraction rather than an attack, summonable combat ally or defensive barrier.
  • Use it close to a suitable humanoid enemy to draw attention away from a doorway or your intended approach. The apparition appears only a short distance ahead of you, unlike a long-range thrown spell.
  • Demi-Humans can be distracted even during combat. Enemy type and behavior matter; do not rely on it to control a boss or another player.
  • It does not deal HP or stance damage. Shard of Alexander and offensive attributes do not make the lure stronger, and Occult affinity does not turn it into a damaging Arcane projectile.
  • Creating the decoy takes an animation. If an enemy is already within striking distance, finish that animation from cover or after making an opening.
  • A backstab after distraction is the weapon's own critical attack. Its damage and any HP or FP recovery from a critical talisman are separate from the lure itself.
  • This Ash comes from an invisible scarab in Consecrated Snowfield. Watch the glowing tracks and strike ahead of the moving scarab rather than swinging only after the trail passes.
  • Compatible weapon classes: Dagger, Straight Sword, Greatsword, Colossal Sword, Curved Sword, Curved Greatsword, Katana, Twinblade, Thrusting Sword, Heavy Thrusting Sword, Axe, Greataxe, Hammer, Great Hammer, Flail, Spear, Great Spear, Halberd, Reaper, Fist, Claw, Whip, Colossal Weapon, Hand-to-Hand, Thrusting Shield, Throwing Blade, Backhand Blade, Light Greatsword, Great Katana, Beast Claw. A weapon with a fixed skill cannot use this Ash of War.
  • Its default affinity is Occult. The supported choices are Standard, Heavy, Keen, Quality, Poison, Blood and Occult; the appropriate whetblade is needed for additional options.
  • It can help separate a susceptible guard from a group, but breaking line of sight and leaving yourself an escape route are still useful. The decoy does not force every nearby enemy to ignore damage or allies.
  • The weapon’s affinity changes its ordinary attacks. Choosing Occult does not make the decoy last longer or expand the set of enemies it can distract.
