About this Ash of War
Press skill to brace, then strong attack for the uppercut. The stamp costs 5 FP and the uppercut costs another 8 FP, for 13 FP in total.
During the stamp, incoming damage is halved and you resist interruption. That protection ends when the uppercut animation begins, so you cannot rely on it throughout the whole attack.
The uppercut launches enemies that can be thrown into the air. A large boss may stay standing even when the hit connects.

Usable on swords, axes, and hammers (small and medium swords excepted).
Where to find
Bernahl's shop at Warmaster's Shack
Stormhill
Starting Site of Grace: Warmaster's Shack
Before you go
- Have 1,500 runes.
- Visit during the day.
- From Gatefront, follow the road uphill through Stormgate to Stormhill Shack. Turn east along the road through the woods to Warmaster's Shack.
- Speak to Knight Bernahl inside during the day, open his skill shop and buy Stamp (Upward Cut) for 1,500 runes. His shop has one copy.
- If Bernahl has moved to Volcano Manor, use his drawing-room shop. Once he leaves the manor, examine the sword at his chair for the established shop.
- If you already have Bernahl's Bell Bearing, give it to the Twin Maiden Husks to buy his remaining stock. Killing him is unnecessary and cuts off his later quest rewards.
Notes
- Press skill to brace, then strong attack for the uppercut. The stamp costs 5 FP and the uppercut costs another 8 FP, for 13 FP in total.
- During the stamp, incoming damage is halved and you resist interruption. That protection ends when the uppercut animation begins, so you cannot rely on it throughout the whole attack.
- The uppercut launches enemies that can be thrown into the air. A large boss may stay standing even when the hit connects.
- Pressing light attack after the stamp uses an ordinary light-chain attack instead of the uppercut. It does not spend the extra 8 FP.
- The uppercut uses the weapon's damage and status buildup. It can be parried, and its stamina cost is high enough that you should leave room to dodge afterward.
- The uppercut deals more stance damage with heavier blunt weapons than with an axe. Equipping the Ash does not give every weapon an identical stance-breaking hit.
- Shard of Alexander boosts the damaging follow-up. It does not make the opening defensive stamp reduce more damage.
- Can use this Ash of War on compatible equipment in these classes: Greatsword, Colossal Sword, Curved Greatsword, Heavy Thrusting Sword, Axe, Greataxe, Hammer, Great Hammer, Flail, Colossal Weapon, Great Katana. Fixed-skill equipment is excluded.
- The default affinity is Heavy. Additional affinities depend on the weapon and your whetblades; a class appearing in the compatibility list does not mean every weapon in that class supports every affinity.
