About this Ash of War

Costs 20 FP for a somersault into one heavy downward hit. This version has no extra follow-up; Savage Lion's Claw is a separate Ash.

Damage uses the weapon's attack power, so Strength is strongest on a Strength-focused affinity while other affinities can support different attributes. The Heavy default does not force every version to scale only with Strength.

Enemy stance damage changes with the weapon: 33 with a greatsword, 36 with a colossal sword, 42 with a great hammer and 45 with a hammer-type colossal weapon, before other effects.

Where to find

Lion Guardian in Fort Gael

Caelid

Starting Site of Grace: Fort Gael North

  1. Follow the main road east from Limgrave through Summonwater Village toward Caelid. In western Caelid, leave the highway south toward the large fort on the hill and activate Fort Gael North beside its approach.
  2. Reach Fort Gael North in western Caelid. Go uphill to the fort, whose main gate is shut.
  3. Follow the outside wall around to the ladder and climb onto the ramparts. Clear the soldiers before dropping into the courtyard.
  4. Defeat the Lion Guardian below to receive Lion's Claw. Open the gate from inside if you want an easier way back out.
  5. The tower and sending gate are separate from the reward; neither needs to be used.

Notes

  • Costs 20 FP for a somersault into one heavy downward hit. This version has no extra follow-up; Savage Lion's Claw is a separate Ash.
  • Damage uses the weapon's attack power, so Strength is strongest on a Strength-focused affinity while other affinities can support different attributes. The Heavy default does not force every version to scale only with Strength.
  • Enemy stance damage changes with the weapon: 33 with a greatsword, 36 with a colossal sword, 42 with a great hammer and 45 with a hammer-type colossal weapon, before other effects.
  • The slam applies the weapon's ordinary status buildup once. It can flatten susceptible enemies, but a boss that resists the knockdown can still suffer damage and stance pressure.
  • It strongly resists interruption during the attack, but does not make you invulnerable. Being hit can still kill you before the slam finishes.
  • Shard of Alexander increases its damage by 15%. It is an uncharged skill, so Godfrey Icon and Axe Talisman do not boost it; the somersault is also separate from an ordinary jump attack boosted by Claw Talisman.
  • Shorter weapons need closer positioning for the head or blade to connect. The leap is not a ranged blast with the same reach on every weapon.
  • The Lion Guardian in Fort Gael guarantees the Ash when defeated. The fort's sending gate and the Redmane Festival are unnecessary.
  • Compatible weapon classes: Straight Sword, Greatsword, Colossal Sword, Curved Sword, Curved Greatsword, Katana, Twinblade, Axe, Greataxe, Hammer, Great Hammer, Flail, Colossal Weapon, Light Greatsword, Great Katana. A weapon with a fixed skill cannot use this Ash of War.
  • Its default affinity is Heavy. The supported choices are Standard, Heavy, Keen, Quality, Fire, Flame Art, Lightning, Sacred, Magic, Cold, Poison, Blood and Occult; the appropriate whetblade is needed for additional options.
