About this Ash of War
Costs 3 FP and 12 stamina. Hold a direction while using the skill to step that way; locking on lets you circle the target.
A forward step leads into a rolling light attack. Sideways and backward steps lead into the weapon's backstep attack, which can move you back toward the target.
Light equip load increases travel distance. Repeated steps have less protection than a fresh use, and the dodge window is shorter against players.

Where to find
Bernahl's skill shop
Limgrave
Starting Site of Grace: Warmaster's Shack
Before you go
- Have 800 runes.
- Visit during the day.
- From Gatefront, follow the road uphill through Stormgate to Stormhill Shack. Turn east along the road through the woods to Warmaster's Shack.
- Speak to Knight Bernahl inside during the day, open his skill shop and buy Quickstep for 800 runes. His shop has one copy.
- If Bernahl has moved to Volcano Manor, use his drawing-room shop. Once he leaves the manor, examine the sword at his chair for the established shop.
- If you already have Bernahl's Bell Bearing, give it to the Twin Maiden Husks to buy his remaining stock. Killing him is unnecessary and cuts off his later quest rewards.
Notes
- Costs 3 FP and 12 stamina. Hold a direction while using the skill to step that way; locking on lets you circle the target.
- A forward step leads into a rolling light attack. Sideways and backward steps lead into the weapon's backstep attack, which can move you back toward the target.
- Light equip load increases travel distance. Repeated steps have less protection than a fresh use, and the dodge window is shorter against players.
- It moves you through deep water and swamps where ordinary movement is slow. It does not cure poison or rot, and movement through a hazard can still build up status.
- It has no damaging projectile and gains no damage from Dexterity merely because its default affinity is Keen. Your follow-up attack uses the weapon's own scaling.
- Bloodhound's Step travels farther and costs 5 FP. Quickstep is the cheaper, shorter movement option.
- Using it without the required FP or weapon attributes gives much less protection. Do not judge the normal combat dodge by that weakened version.
- Can use this Ash of War on compatible equipment in these classes: Dagger, Straight Sword, Greatsword, Colossal Sword, Curved Sword, Curved Greatsword, Katana, Twinblade, Thrusting Sword, Heavy Thrusting Sword, Axe, Greataxe, Hammer, Great Hammer, Flail, Spear, Great Spear, Halberd, Reaper, Fist, Claw, Whip, Colossal Weapon, Hand-to-Hand, Perfume Bottle, Thrusting Shield, Throwing Blade, Backhand Blade, Light Greatsword, Great Katana, Beast Claw. Fixed-skill equipment is excluded.
- The default affinity is Keen. Additional affinities depend on the weapon and your whetblades; a class appearing in the compatibility list does not mean every weapon in that class supports every affinity.
