About this Ash of War

The slash spreads a poison cloud and leaves poison on the weapon for a while.

The mist works best when an enemy stays inside it. The temporary coating lets later normal hits continue building poison after you leave the cloud.

It is a weapon buff and can replace an incompatible grease or spell coating.

Where to find

Teleporting scarab on an Aeonia swamp island

Caelid

Starting Site of Grace: Aeonia Swamp Shore

  1. Reach Aeonia Swamp Shore on the western side of the Swamp of Aeonia.
  2. Ride southeast into the swamp toward the small island. Stay mounted to reduce the time spent standing in the rot water.
  3. Locate the scarab on the island and attack it from range before approaching. It teleports when threatened.
  4. Finish it for Poisonous Mist. Commander O'Neil in the swamp's center is not required.

Notes

  • The slash spreads a poison cloud and leaves poison on the weapon for a while.
  • The mist works best when an enemy stays inside it. The temporary coating lets later normal hits continue building poison after you leave the cloud.
  • It is a weapon buff and can replace an incompatible grease or spell coating.
  • It causes poison, not Scarlet Rot. The surrounding swamp does not change the Ash's status effect.
  • Compatible weapon classes: Dagger, Straight Sword, Greatsword, Colossal Sword, Curved Sword, Curved Greatsword, Katana, Twinblade, Thrusting Sword, Heavy Thrusting Sword, Axe, Greataxe, Hammer, Great Hammer, Flail, Spear, Great Spear, Halberd, Reaper, Colossal Weapon, Thrusting Shield, Light Greatsword, Great Katana. A weapon with a fixed skill cannot use this Ash of War.
  • Its default affinity is Poison. The supported choices are Standard, Heavy, Keen, Quality, Poison, Blood and Occult; the appropriate whetblade is needed for additional options.
  • The skill costs 14 FP before equipment that changes FP costs.
  • The temporary weapon coating lasts 40 seconds. It adds Poison buildup to later weapon hits and replaces another incompatible weapon coating.
  • The weapon slash uses ordinary attack power and its existing status effects. The cloud builds its own Poison rather than repeating every weapon ailment.
  • Arcane can improve the mist’s Poison buildup. Increasing the weapon coating’s buildup through Arcane also requires an affinity that gives the weapon Arcane scaling.
  • Poison affinity is not required to create the cloud. A supported Physical affinity can use the skill, although it changes the ordinary weapon’s damage and status scaling.
  • Shard of Alexander improves the damaging weapon contact. Godfrey Icon does not apply because the skill cannot be charged, and a damage bonus does not directly increase Poison buildup.
  • Applying Poison again does not immediately repeat a damage burst like Blood Loss. Use Poison Moth Flight or The Poison Flower Blooms Twice if you specifically want to consume an active ailment for extra damage.
