Before you go

• Defeat the Godskin Noble.
• Bring two Stonesword Keys.

1. At Scenic Isle in southern Liurnia, head east toward the stone gazebo near the telescope. Speak to Rya about her stolen necklace before entering Volcano Manor, which ends this early meeting.
2. Ride northwest across the shallow lake to Boilprawn Shack. Talk to Boggart beside the cooking pot, ask for the necklace and choose Deal to open the purchase.
3. Buy Rya's Necklace for 1,000 runes. Buying it keeps Boggart alive and opens his prawn shop; purchase at least one Boiled Prawn if you want his later move and crab stock.
4. Return to Rya in the gazebo and give her the necklace. Finish her dialogue to receive Volcano Manor Invitation.
5. Reach Altus Plateau through the Grand Lift of Dectus with the medallion halves from Fort Haight and Fort Faroth, or by defeating Magma Wyrm Makar at Ruin-Strewn Precipice. Rya waits at the top of Dectus for lift arrivals, or by Lux Ruins near Erdtree-Gazing Hill for the precipice route. Speak to her and accept her hand to travel to Volcano Manor.
6. If you have not entered the dungeon yet, speak to Tanith in Volcano Manor and accept her invitation to get the Drawing-Room Key. Open the first room on the right in the corridor. Roll into or strike the illusory wall in the back-right corner to reveal a passage. Follow it downstairs, past the snails and Bloodhound Knight, to the Prison Town Church grace.
7. Leave the church through its large doors and take the path downhill to the right. Follow the outer wall, watching for the Abductor Virgin. When the path splits at the stairs, cross the bridge toward the large building guarded by a Man-Serpent. Its front door is locked, so go around the right side to the ladder.
8. From the roof, go south and look over the western edge for the balcony with an open doorway and lantern. Drop onto it and enter the room with the Omenkiller.
9. Clear the Omenkiller, leave through the southern door and climb the ladder on the left. Follow the balcony left and drop onto the adjoining roof. Continue through the side entrance into the building and open its main door as a shortcut.
10. Go southeast down the interior stairs. At the bottom, follow the corridor into the room on the right and activate Guest Hall grace.
11. Return to the lower corridor and leave through its large northeastern door. Climb down the ladder on the right to the lava-side ground.
12. Use the solid ground and the sloping roof of the building east of you to cross toward the northeastern rooftops. Follow the rampart toward the western building, then turn southeast to the stairs guarded by a Man-Serpent.
13. At the top, use the cage lift that takes you upward toward the temple. The other lift descends toward an optional Magma Wyrm and is not the route to the Godskin Noble.
14. Pass the Blackflame Monk on the upper stairs. Before entering the temple, turn left and activate the bridge mechanism to raise the shortcut back toward Prison Town Church.
15. Enter Temple of Eiglay and defeat the Godskin Noble. Activate Temple of Eiglay grace afterward. Rykard is not required for this part of the dungeon.
16. Take the lift on the right inside Temple of Eiglay and go out onto its upper balcony. Drop over the barrier onto the solid ground beside the lava rather than into the pool.
17. Follow the narrow volcanic path past the fire slugs. Before the corpse at its end, drop left onto the lower ledge, then follow it around and uphill toward the larger lava pool.
18. Cross toward the western building, avoid the Abductor Virgin, and enter through the open window around its right side. The ladder inside descends to the prison and is not needed for Rya or the ashes.
19. Open the forward door, pass the Man-Serpent and climb the stairs on the right. Use the doorway on the left at the top to reach the shortcut lift.
20. Continue northwest past the Man-Serpent with the flaming whip into the upper manor. Enter the throne room on the right, go up either staircase beside the throne and take the stairs at the rear to the upper floor.
21. Use two Stonesword Keys at the imp statue beyond the central doorway. In the tall cage room, lower yourself onto the hanging cages one at a time, looking for the next solid landing before each drop. Avoid a direct fall to the floor.
22. At the bottom, clear the approaching Albinaurics and use the northeastern passage. Enter the well-lit room with the portrait and fireplace, then collect Royal Knight's Resolve from the corpse beside the fireplace.
23. Open the nearby door for the shortcut back toward Volcano Manor's entrance. Rykard is unnecessary for the pickup.

Notes

• Costs 15 FP and lasts up to ten seconds. The next connecting attack from the buffed weapon gains 80% damage against enemies or 40% against other players.
• It also gives the attack four times its ordinary stamina damage against a guard. That does not mean four times the HP damage or four times the stance damage against an unguarded boss.
• Critical attacks have their attack power reduced separately, so a backstab or riposte does not receive the full ordinary-hit improvement. The final result depends on defenses and the critical animation.
• Some attacks have several contacts before the final one spends the buff. A multi-hit heavy can therefore benefit differently from a single swing; it is not a lasting bonus for a whole ordinary combo.
• It strengthens only the weapon carrying the coating. Another weapon or separately cast spell does not receive the bonus, and swapping out the buffed weapon ends it.
• It replaces incompatible weapon coatings. The percentage does not grow with attributes or reinforcement, although a stronger underlying weapon makes the boosted hit stronger.
• The selected route requires two Stonesword Keys and the manor's hanging-cage descent. Rykard and the assassination contracts are unnecessary, and his defeat does not remove the dungeon pickup.
• Compatible weapon classes: Dagger, Straight Sword, Greatsword, Colossal Sword, Curved Sword, Curved Greatsword, Katana, Twinblade, Thrusting Sword, Heavy Thrusting Sword, Axe, Greataxe, Hammer, Great Hammer, Flail, Spear, Great Spear, Halberd, Reaper, Fist, Claw, Whip, Colossal Weapon, Thrusting Shield, Backhand Blade, Light Greatsword, Great Katana, Beast Claw. A weapon with a fixed skill cannot use this Ash of War.
• Its default affinity is Quality. The supported choices are Standard, Heavy, Keen, Quality, Fire, Flame Art, Lightning, Sacred, Magic, Cold, Poison, Blood and Occult; the appropriate whetblade is needed for additional options.
