Where to find

Plaza where Fire Knight Queelign invades

Belurat, Tower Settlement

Starting Site of Grace: Small Private Altar

  1. To enter the Realm of Shadow, defeat Starscourge Radahn and Mohg, Lord of Blood, then touch the withered arm in Mohg's arena at Mohgwyn Palace.
  2. From Three-Path Cross, follow the western route through the rocky passage to Main Gate Cross outside Belurat.
  3. Climb the entrance stairs and open the large doors. Pass the giant scorpions and the room of smaller scorpions, then continue upstairs to Belurat, Tower Settlement grace.
  4. The large doors ahead are shut. Take the path right into the small square with the waterfall, then turn left toward the elevated bridge where shadow casters fire down at you.
  5. Pass beneath the elevated bridge and enter the open doorway on the left. Clear the shadow enemies and climb the building's stairs to Small Private Altar grace.
  6. Leave through the north door and watch for the patrolling Horned Warrior. Take the stairs down to the east, then follow the path north into the open plaza.
  7. Fire Knight Queelign invades in this area. Deal with him before stopping to search if he is still alive.
  8. Check behind the large central tree and statue area. Loot the body there for Shriek of Sorrow; it is a ground pickup, rather than Queelign's invasion reward.

Notes

  • Costs 19 FP and 20 stamina. The shout makes nearby enemies flinch and grants a 40-second weapon buff based on your remaining HP.
  • At 85% HP or more, it gives 10% more Physical damage against enemies. Below 85% the bonus is 15%, below 55% it is 20%, and below 30% it is 25%.
  • Against other players, those four Physical bonuses are 7.5%, 10%, 15% and 20%. The lower-health tiers do not give the full enemy-fight values in PvP.
  • The buff also adds to the weapon's Strength scaling. This does not add five points to your character's Strength stat or remove the weapon's attribute requirements.
  • The selected bonus generally remains after healing, but the strongest tier falls to the next tier when you heal above its low-health threshold. It is not a permanent 25% setup after safely restoring all HP.
  • It is a weapon buff, so another incompatible coating or weapon buff replaces it. It does not give the same Physical increase to every spell or every other equipped weapon.
  • Unlike War Cry and Barbaric Roar, it does not replace the weapon's heavy moveset. Your ordinary heavies therefore do not become roar attacks for Roar Medallion merely because this buff came from a shout.
  • The shout itself deals no HP damage, although it can flinch enemies and contribute stance pressure. Shard of Alexander does not turn the ongoing buff into a larger percentage bonus.
  • Lower HP increases the reward but also makes the next mistake more dangerous. The skill does not heal you or make the shout invulnerable.
  • The pickup is behind the large tree in Queelign's invasion plaza at Belurat. Defeating Queelign clears the danger, but the Ash is a separate body pickup rather than his invasion reward.
  • Compatible weapon classes: Dagger, Straight Sword, Greatsword, Colossal Sword, Curved Sword, Curved Greatsword, Katana, Twinblade, Thrusting Sword, Heavy Thrusting Sword, Axe, Greataxe, Hammer, Great Hammer, Flail, Spear, Great Spear, Halberd, Reaper, Fist, Claw, Whip, Colossal Weapon, Hand-to-Hand, Thrusting Shield, Throwing Blade, Backhand Blade, Light Greatsword, Great Katana, Beast Claw. A weapon with a fixed skill cannot use this Ash of War.
  • Its default affinity is Occult. The supported choices are Standard, Heavy, Keen, Quality, Poison, Blood and Occult; the appropriate whetblade is needed for additional options.
