About this Ash of War
The first flame fan costs 4 FP. A heavy-attack input adds the lunging weapon sweep for 10 FP, making the complete sequence 14 FP.
The opening flame improves through Strength and weapon upgrades. Choosing Flame Art does not change that independent flame into a Faith-scaled projectile, although it changes the weapon's ordinary damage.
The follow-up uses the weapon's attack power and applies its normal status on contact. The first flame fan does not carry the weapon's bleed, poison or other innate status.

In-game description
This Ash of War grants an armament the Fire affinity and the following skill:
"Flaming Strike: Skill that emits flame in a wide frontward arc. Follow up with a strong attack to perform a lunging, sweeping strike. This will also coat the armament in fire."
Usable on melee armaments (colossal weapons and whips excepted).
Where to find
Scarab in the graveyard behind Redmane Castle
Caelid
Starting Site of Grace: Impassable Greatbridge
- Cross the bridge toward Redmane Castle and follow the approach up the slope. You do not need to enter the main courtyard.
- Use the wooden tower and its ladder on the outer approach to reach the lower ledge beside the castle wall.
- Follow the southern cliff around the outside of the castle to the small graveyard. Watch for the bats as you enter.
- Kill the scarab among the graves for Flaming Strike. The festival and Radahn are not required.
Notes
- The first flame fan costs 4 FP. A heavy-attack input adds the lunging weapon sweep for 10 FP, making the complete sequence 14 FP.
- The opening flame improves through Strength and weapon upgrades. Choosing Flame Art does not change that independent flame into a Faith-scaled projectile, although it changes the weapon's ordinary damage.
- The follow-up uses the weapon's attack power and applies its normal status on contact. The first flame fan does not carry the weapon's bleed, poison or other innate status.
- The heavy follow-up adds 90 flat Fire attack power to the weapon for 40 seconds. The opening fan alone does not apply this coating.
- The coating is available on the skill's supported Fire and Flame Art affinities as well as its Physical affinities. It is the skill's own buff and does not make those elemental affinities compatible with every grease or weapon enchantment.
- Shard of Alexander improves the skill, and Fire damage bonuses help its Fire portion. Godfrey Icon does not apply because neither stage can be charged.
- The opening fan deals 10 stance damage. The sweep adds stance damage based on the weapon class, so a larger weapon and a dagger do not produce the same close-range stance pressure.
- The fan can catch a nearby dodge, while the sweep closes distance. Only the weapon follow-up can be parried, and you can omit it when there is no safe opening.
- Kill the scarab in the graveyard outside Redmane Castle's southern wall. You do not need to enter the festival courtyard or defeat Radahn.
- Compatible weapon classes: Dagger, Straight Sword, Greatsword, Curved Sword, Curved Greatsword, Katana, Twinblade, Thrusting Sword, Heavy Thrusting Sword, Axe, Greataxe, Hammer, Great Hammer, Flail, Spear, Great Spear, Halberd, Reaper, Fist, Claw, Thrusting Shield, Backhand Blade, Light Greatsword, Great Katana, Beast Claw. A weapon with a fixed skill cannot use this Ash of War.
- Its default affinity is Fire. The supported choices are Standard, Heavy, Keen, Quality, Fire and Flame Art; the appropriate whetblade is needed for additional options.
