About this Ash of War

Costs 12 FP and spins the equipped weapon directly in front of you for up to seven contacts. It uses the weapon's attack power and damage types, rather than turning every weapon into a Magic projectile.

You move slowly while it spins. Keep the target in front of you; a small enemy can move out of the contacts, and attacks from the side can get around the weapon.

Each contact applies 50% of the weapon's listed status buildup. Landing all seven therefore applies up to three and a half full doses, not seven, before accounting for the enemy's resistance.

Where to find

Rogier in Stormveil's chapel

Limgrave

Starting Site of Grace: Rampart Tower

Before you go

  • Reach the chapel before Rogier moves.
  1. After defeating Margit, follow Gostoc's side entrance through Stormveil to Rampart Tower grace. Leave through its northwestern doorway toward the rampart with the explosive-barrel Warhawks.
  2. Get past the birds without standing beside their barrels. Follow the rampart to the small chapel roof and use the ladder to descend inside.
  3. Find Sorcerer Rogier in the chapel and ask to learn skills. This meeting is available before defeating Godrick.
  4. Buy Spinning Weapon for 1,000 runes. This is a separate purchase from the skills attached to his rapier gift.

Rogier's balcony shop

Roundtable Hold

Starting Site of Grace: Table of Lost Grace

Before you go

  • Defeat Godrick to move Rogier to the Hold.
  1. After defeating Godrick in Stormveil, return to Roundtable Hold. From the central table, go toward the balcony overlooking the lower hall where Mad Tongue Alberich invades.
  2. Speak to Rogier seated on that balcony. Tell him about Godrick to receive his separate +8 rapier gift, then open his Ash of War shop for the purchases.
  3. Buy Spinning Weapon for 1,000 runes. This is a separate purchase from the skills attached to his rapier gift.

Rogier's transferred bell-bearing shop

Roundtable Hold

Starting Site of Grace: Table of Lost Grace

Before you go

  • Collect and hand over Rogier's Bell Bearing if he has died.
  1. After defeating Godrick in Stormveil Castle, return to Roundtable Hold. Rogier sits on the balcony overlooking the lower hall where Mad Tongue Alberich invades. Speak to him about Godrick to collect his separate +8 rapier gift before progressing his condition.
  2. Joining Ranni provides a direct route to his final rewards. If you want Rogier's investigation dialogue as well, finish his Black Knifeprint investigation before entering her service. Skipping that investigation does not prevent the armor or bearing pickup.
  3. Reach the western Liurnia road and follow it north through Kingsrealm Ruins. Strike the illusory wall blocking the road at the northern end, then continue past Iji at Road to the Manor.
  4. Ride toward the large manor while avoiding the magical strikes falling along the approach. Activate Main Caria Manor Gate grace at the entrance.
  5. Inside, follow the courtyard path northwest toward the building in the far corner. Fingercreepers hide among the plants and beneath the ground; do not stop on a buried hand.
  6. Enter the building with the seated spirit and climb its stairs to Manor Lower Level grace.
  7. Take the elevated walkways east and continue straight along the main route at the first junction. Spectral soldiers appear along the bridges. Reach the far building and take its lift up to Manor Upper Level.
  8. Leave the upper grace, pass the wolves in the garden and climb the main stone stairway toward the Troll Knight and sorcerers.
  9. Continue up the stairs beyond the troll and Pages to the large circular courtyard. Defeat Royal Knight Loretta, then activate Royal Moongazing Grounds grace.
  10. Leave through the rear exit into Three Sisters. Ranni's Rise is the western tower; climb to Ranni and agree to serve her.
  11. If Ranni turns you away because you are following Rogier's investigation, report her refusal to Rogier at the Hold. He suggests entering her service; return to her tower and agree. Speak to the servant projections downstairs and finish Ranni's conversation before leaving.
  12. Return to Rogier on the balcony and finish his dialogue. After he warns that he is falling into a deep sleep, reload the Hold and revisit his seat. Rest, pass time and reload again over the next visits until his final loot appears.
  13. Collect the four regular Spellblade pieces, Rogier's Bell Bearing and his letter beside his seat. His sleep alone is not the loot interaction; return after his death. You do not have to finish Ranni's entire quest or defeat Fortissax for this pickup.
  14. Give the bearing to the Twin Maiden Husks in Roundtable Hold, then open Rogier's transferred shop.
  15. Open the transferred shop and buy Spinning Weapon for 1,000 runes if you left it unbought.

Notes

  • Costs 12 FP and spins the equipped weapon directly in front of you for up to seven contacts. It uses the weapon's attack power and damage types, rather than turning every weapon into a Magic projectile.
  • You move slowly while it spins. Keep the target in front of you; a small enemy can move out of the contacts, and attacks from the side can get around the weapon.
  • Each contact applies 50% of the weapon's listed status buildup. Landing all seven therefore applies up to three and a half full doses, not seven, before accounting for the enemy's resistance.
  • Can use a Cold weapon for Frostbite or a weapon with innate Blood Loss for bleeding. Grease or a weapon enchantment can be applied while using an affinity that allows weapon buffs.
  • Bloodflame Blade's delayed bleed effect is separate from the reduced innate-status application, making repeated contacts useful on a compatible coated weapon. Cold and Magic affinities still do not allow that ordinary weapon enchantment.
  • Shard of Alexander strengthens the skill, and the repeated contacts can build repeated-hit bonuses. It cannot be charged, so Godfrey Icon provides no charged-skill benefit.
  • Putting it on a staff does not make the attack use that staff's Sorcery Scaling. Ordinary staff melee attack power is low, which limits its direct damage there.
  • Carian Regal Scepter has a separate fixed version with different Magic attack behavior. Applying this Ash to another staff does not copy that stronger version.
  • Rogier sells the transferable Ash for 1,000 runes. It is different from Spinning Strikes, the polearm skill that you can keep spinning.
  • Compatible weapon classes: Dagger, Straight Sword, Curved Sword, Katana, Twinblade, Thrusting Sword, Axe, Hammer, Flail, Spear, Halberd, Reaper, Glintstone Staff, Thrusting Shield, Throwing Blade, Backhand Blade, Light Greatsword, Great Katana. A weapon with a fixed skill cannot use this Ash of War.
  • Its default affinity is Magic. The supported choices are Standard, Heavy, Keen, Quality, Magic and Cold; the appropriate whetblade is needed for additional options.
