About this Ash of War
Costs 16 FP and gives a 40-second weapon buff. Physical attack power increases by 7.5%, with an additional improvement to Strength scaling.
The roar changes strong and charged attacks into a different moveset. The exact attacks depend on the weapon class; charging them can add a running approach.
The buff does not make every damage type 7.5% stronger. Its direct attack-power increase applies to the physical portion, and the extra scaling benefits Strength.

Where to find
Bernahl's shop at Warmaster's Shack
Stormhill
Starting Site of Grace: Warmaster's Shack
Before you go
- Have 800 runes.
- Visit during the day.
- From Gatefront, follow the road uphill through Stormgate to Stormhill Shack. Turn east along the road through the woods to Warmaster's Shack.
- Speak to Knight Bernahl inside during the day, open his skill shop and buy War Cry for 800 runes. His shop has one copy.
- If Bernahl has moved to Volcano Manor, use his drawing-room shop. Once he leaves the manor, examine the sword at his chair for the established shop.
- If you already have Bernahl's Bell Bearing, give it to the Twin Maiden Husks to buy his remaining stock. Killing him is unnecessary and cuts off his later quest rewards.
Notes
- Costs 16 FP and gives a 40-second weapon buff. Physical attack power increases by 7.5%, with an additional improvement to Strength scaling.
- The roar changes strong and charged attacks into a different moveset. The exact attacks depend on the weapon class; charging them can add a running approach.
- The buff does not make every damage type 7.5% stronger. Its direct attack-power increase applies to the physical portion, and the extra scaling benefits Strength.
- It is a weapon buff, so putting the weapon away or replacing its enchantment ends it. It is not a separate permanent increase to your character's Strength attribute.
- Roar Medallion and a Highland Axe held in an active hand slot strengthen the changed heavy attacks and can work together. An axe sitting in an inactive equipment slot does not provide that bonus.
- Axe Talisman helps when you fully charge the altered attack. Shard of Alexander does not boost those heavy attacks, because they are weapon attacks enabled by a buff rather than direct skill hits.
- Two-Handed Sword Talisman can improve the altered attacks when actually two-handing an eligible weapon. The roar itself is not a damaging projectile.
- Can use this Ash of War on compatible equipment in these classes: Straight Sword, Greatsword, Colossal Sword, Curved Sword, Curved Greatsword, Katana, Twinblade, Axe, Greataxe, Hammer, Great Hammer, Flail, Spear, Great Spear, Halberd, Reaper, Fist, Claw, Colossal Weapon, Hand-to-Hand, Light Greatsword, Great Katana, Beast Claw. Fixed-skill equipment is excluded.
- The default affinity is Heavy. Additional affinities depend on the weapon and your whetblades; a class appearing in the compatibility list does not mean every weapon in that class supports every affinity.
