About this Ash of War
Costs 14 FP and 20 stamina for a broad forward fan of Fire. It can pass through the first enemy and hit others behind it.
The Fire damage improves through Strength and weapon upgrades independently of ordinary weapon attack power. Faith does not strengthen the fan even when Flame Art changes the weapon's normal Fire scaling to Faith.
Heavy gives stronger independent Strength scaling, with Fire also improving it compared with several other choices. Choose the affinity for both your ordinary weapon and this separate Fire calculation.

In-game description
This Ash of War grants an armament the Fire affinity and the following skill:
"Flame of the Redmanes: Skill of the Redmanes, who fought alongside General Radahn. Produce a powerful burst of flames in a wide frontward arc."
Usable on all melee armaments.
Where to find
Invisible scarab near Fort Gael North
Caelid
Starting Site of Grace: Fort Gael North
- Follow the road into western Caelid and reach Fort Gael North, outside the fort's northern approach.
- Search the open ground near the grace for glowing footprints moving in a loop. They belong to an invisible scarab.
- Wait on its path and time a swing as the trail approaches, or use a wide attack to cover the route.
- Kill it to receive the Ash. Climbing into Fort Gael and fighting its lion are unnecessary.
Notes
- Costs 14 FP and 20 stamina for a broad forward fan of Fire. It can pass through the first enemy and hit others behind it.
- The Fire damage improves through Strength and weapon upgrades independently of ordinary weapon attack power. Faith does not strengthen the fan even when Flame Art changes the weapon's normal Fire scaling to Faith.
- Heavy gives stronger independent Strength scaling, with Fire also improving it compared with several other choices. Choose the affinity for both your ordinary weapon and this separate Fire calculation.
- Deals 10 stance damage per successful fan. Older demonstrations using 40 stance damage no longer describe the current attack.
- The fan carries no ordinary weapon status or weapon-coating attack power. Blood affinity and Bloodflame Blade do not make the Fire burst apply their buildup.
- Shard of Alexander and Fire bonuses improve the skill. An active Freyja's Greatsword adds its Redmane bonus: 10% against enemies or 7% against other players.
- Godfrey Icon does not apply because the fan cannot be charged. It does not use a seal or gain an incantation school bonus.
- The wide arc is useful for groups, but the cast has a delay and targets above or below its path can escape. Aim on relatively even ground when possible.
- Fire can remove an active Frostbite effect, allowing another buildup cycle but ending its ongoing damage vulnerability. The skill itself adds no Frostbite.
- The invisible scarab near Fort Gael North gives the Ash. Follow its glowing tracks and attack ahead of the trail; the fort's lion is a different reward.
- Compatible weapon classes: Dagger, Straight Sword, Greatsword, Colossal Sword, Curved Sword, Curved Greatsword, Katana, Twinblade, Thrusting Sword, Heavy Thrusting Sword, Axe, Greataxe, Hammer, Great Hammer, Flail, Spear, Great Spear, Halberd, Reaper, Fist, Claw, Whip, Colossal Weapon, Hand-to-Hand, Thrusting Shield, Throwing Blade, Backhand Blade, Light Greatsword, Great Katana, Beast Claw. A weapon with a fixed skill cannot use this Ash of War.
- Its default affinity is Fire. The supported choices are Standard, Heavy, Keen, Quality, Fire and Flame Art; the appropriate whetblade is needed for additional options.
