About this Ash of War
The attack creates scarlet-rot stingers and drives you down onto the enemy.
A direct hit against a target already suffering poison or scarlet rot triggers extra damage and removes that active ailment. Reapply it if you want another detonation.
The direct kick needs to connect for the detonation. Catching an enemy only with the surrounding effect does not give the same result.

Where to find
Rot pool south of Ravine North
Rauh Base
Starting Site of Grace: Ravine North
- From Moorth Ruins grace in Scadu Altus, ride northeast to the small triangular pool. Look for the cave beside a statue of Marika and a Scadutree Fragment.
- Enter the cave and follow it past the perfumers to the glowing golden tree. Take the path to its right down into the swamp.
- Turn left through the route beneath the rock and continue until you emerge into Rauh Base. Activate Ancient Ruins Base grace ahead.
- Follow the valley southwest toward Temple Town Ruins. A bow golem and an axe golem guard the approach; fighting them is optional if you can pass their attacks.
- Collect the map beneath the stele near the ruined town. This is the lower valley, not the upper ruins reached through Shadow Keep.
- From Temple Town Ruins, follow the lower river north and northwest past the Pests and Gravebird platforms. Keep following the ravine until you can climb to Ravine North grace.
- From Ravine North, head south across the river. Search near the ruined walls for the small pool of scarlet rot, north of the large bridge overhead.
- Kill the scarab beside the rot pool to receive the Ash. Avoid standing in the pool while chasing it.
Notes
- The attack creates scarlet-rot stingers and drives you down onto the enemy.
- A direct hit against a target already suffering poison or scarlet rot triggers extra damage and removes that active ailment. Reapply it if you want another detonation.
- The direct kick needs to connect for the detonation. Catching an enemy only with the surrounding effect does not give the same result.
- Do not expect one use to both apply rot to a healthy target and cash it out immediately. Set up the ailment first, then choose an opening for the hit.
- Compatible weapon classes: Dagger, Straight Sword, Greatsword, Colossal Sword, Curved Sword, Curved Greatsword, Katana, Twinblade, Thrusting Sword, Heavy Thrusting Sword, Axe, Greataxe, Hammer, Great Hammer, Flail, Spear, Great Spear, Halberd, Reaper, Fist, Claw, Whip, Colossal Weapon, Hand-to-Hand, Thrusting Shield, Throwing Blade, Backhand Blade, Light Greatsword, Great Katana, Beast Claw. A weapon with a fixed skill cannot use this Ash of War.
- Its default affinity is Poison. The supported choices are Standard, Heavy, Keen, Quality, Poison, Blood and Occult; the appropriate whetblade is needed for additional options.
- The skill costs 14 FP before equipment that changes FP costs.
- Costs 14 FP and 40 stamina. Its independent Physical stinger and surrounding shockwave scale with Arcane and weapon reinforcement, rather than ordinary weapon attack power.
- Poison and Blood affinities give weaker independent Arcane skill scaling than the other supported choices. Their ordinary status benefits still matter, so that does not make one affinity best for every setup.
- Against a target already suffering Poison or Scarlet Rot, the direct hit adds damage equal to 5% of maximum HP plus 250. This fixed HP loss is separate from the normal skill damage.
- The added HP loss does not grow with how long the ailment had left. Having both Poison and rot does not double that fixed detonation.
- On an unafflicted target, the stinger adds 160 fixed Scarlet Rot buildup. Its rot lasts 90 seconds after triggering, dealing 0.18% of maximum HP plus 15 HP per second before target-specific exceptions.
- The skill does not inherit the weapon’s ordinary status or grease effects. Arcane improves its direct Physical damage, rather than increasing the fixed 160 rot buildup.
- Shard of Alexander, Shattered Stone Talisman and Divine Bird Warrior Greaves improve eligible direct skill damage. They do not multiply its separate fixed percentage-HP detonation.
- Claw Talisman and Godfrey Icon do not apply: the airborne kick is neither an ordinary jumping attack nor a charged skill.
- Consuming the ailment lets you apply it again, which can refresh Kindred of Rot’s Exultation, Mushroom Crown or Poisoned Hand. Applying a partly filled meter is not enough to trigger those bonuses.
