About this Ash of War
Costs 9 FP and briefly reduces incoming damage by 45%, or 40% against players, while letting you resist many interruptions.
Time it just before the action you need to finish, such as drinking a flask or trading a hit. You still lose HP; it does not block the attack.
The protection prevents the brief stagger from Blood Loss and Frostbite, but does not stop their buildup or make those effects harmless.

Where to find
Bernahl's shop
Limgrave
Starting Site of Grace: Warmaster's Shack
Before you go
- Have 600 runes.
- Visit during the day.
- From Gatefront, follow the road uphill through Stormgate to Stormhill Shack. Turn east along the road through the woods to Warmaster's Shack.
- Speak to Knight Bernahl inside during the day, open his skill shop and buy Endure for 600 runes. His shop has one copy.
- If Bernahl has moved to Volcano Manor, use his drawing-room shop. Once he leaves the manor, examine the sword at his chair for the established shop.
- If you already have Bernahl's Bell Bearing, give it to the Twin Maiden Husks to buy his remaining stock. Killing him is unnecessary and cuts off his later quest rewards.
Notes
- Costs 9 FP and briefly reduces incoming damage by 45%, or 40% against players, while letting you resist many interruptions.
- Time it just before the action you need to finish, such as drinking a flask or trading a hit. You still lose HP; it does not block the attack.
- The protection prevents the brief stagger from Blood Loss and Frostbite, but does not stop their buildup or make those effects harmless.
- Headshots, launches and some special attacks can still interrupt you. Endure is not complete immunity to every kind of stagger.
- Light weapons and fist weapons activate quickly. Large weapons have a slower bracing animation, which matters when you are trying to fit a heal into a short opening.
- It has no attack whose damage improves with Strength. Choosing Heavy affects the weapon's ordinary damage; the defensive benefit itself does not require a Strength build.
- Without enough FP or the required weapon attributes, the effect is shorter and much weaker. That version does not give the normal protection.
- The normal protection lasts roughly three to three and a half seconds depending on the weapon animation. Part of that short duration passes while bracing, so use the opening immediately afterward.
- It is a personal buff rather than a weapon coating. You can use the brief protection to finish a spell or drink a flask, and it does not grow stronger with weapon reinforcement.
- Can use this Ash of War on compatible equipment in these classes: Dagger, Straight Sword, Greatsword, Colossal Sword, Curved Sword, Curved Greatsword, Katana, Twinblade, Thrusting Sword, Heavy Thrusting Sword, Axe, Greataxe, Hammer, Great Hammer, Flail, Spear, Great Spear, Halberd, Reaper, Fist, Claw, Whip, Colossal Weapon, Hand-to-Hand, Perfume Bottle, Thrusting Shield, Throwing Blade, Backhand Blade, Light Greatsword, Great Katana, Beast Claw. Fixed-skill equipment is excluded.
- The default affinity is Heavy. Additional affinities depend on the weapon and your whetblades; a class appearing in the compatibility list does not mean every weapon in that class supports every affinity.
