About this Ash of War

Costs no FP and uses 16 stamina. Move close to a blocking enemy and kick the shield to deal heavy guard-stamina damage.

If their guard breaks, move into position and press light attack for a critical hit. The kick does not perform that follow-up for you.

Its ordinary damage is low, and it deals only 6 stance damage against enemies that are not guarding. Breaking a shield guard and breaking a boss's stance are different jobs.

Where to find

Bernahl's skill shop

Limgrave

Starting Site of Grace: Warmaster's Shack

Before you go

  • Have 800 runes.
  • Visit during the day.
  1. From Gatefront, follow the road uphill through Stormgate to Stormhill Shack. Turn east along the road through the woods to Warmaster's Shack.
  2. Speak to Knight Bernahl inside during the day, open his skill shop and buy Kick for 800 runes. His shop has one copy.
  3. If Bernahl has moved to Volcano Manor, use his drawing-room shop. Once he leaves the manor, examine the sword at his chair for the established shop.
  4. If you already have Bernahl's Bell Bearing, give it to the Twin Maiden Husks to buy his remaining stock. Killing him is unnecessary and cuts off his later quest rewards.

Notes

  • Costs no FP and uses 16 stamina. Move close to a blocking enemy and kick the shield to deal heavy guard-stamina damage.
  • If their guard breaks, move into position and press light attack for a critical hit. The kick does not perform that follow-up for you.
  • Its ordinary damage is low, and it deals only 6 stance damage against enemies that are not guarding. Breaking a shield guard and breaking a boss's stance are different jobs.
  • The kick does not apply your weapon's bleed, poison or other status buildup. Putting it on a status weapon does not turn the kick into a status attack.
  • It is an upgrade-dependent strike rather than a hit with your blade. Choosing Heavy does not make Strength the main way to turn it into a damaging attack.
  • Empty hands and several crossbows or ballistas already have Kick. This transferable Ash is for compatible melee weapons; it cannot be installed on those ranged weapons.
  • Can use this Ash of War on compatible equipment in these classes: Dagger, Straight Sword, Greatsword, Colossal Sword, Curved Sword, Curved Greatsword, Katana, Twinblade, Thrusting Sword, Heavy Thrusting Sword, Axe, Greataxe, Hammer, Great Hammer, Flail, Spear, Great Spear, Halberd, Reaper, Fist, Claw, Whip, Colossal Weapon, Hand-to-Hand, Perfume Bottle, Thrusting Shield, Throwing Blade, Backhand Blade, Light Greatsword, Great Katana, Beast Claw. Fixed-skill equipment is excluded.
  • The default affinity is Heavy. Additional affinities depend on the weapon and your whetblades; a class appearing in the compatibility list does not mean every weapon in that class supports every affinity.
