Starting Site of Grace: Dragon's Pit

Before you go

  • To enter the Realm of Shadow, defeat Starscourge Radahn and Mohg, Lord of Blood, then touch the withered arm in Mohg's arena at Mohgwyn Palace.
  • Access the Realm of Shadow.
  1. From Castle Front, follow the road southeast toward Pillar Path Waypoint. At the fork, use the lower road toward Igon rather than climbing to the Suppressing Pillar.
  2. Continue south-southwest past the broken dragon statues. An Ancient Dragon-Man invades along this approach. The cave entrance is on the left near the end of the path, marked by a fire.
  3. Activate Dragon's Pit grace and follow the lit passage down. Watch for skeletons below the first ledge and around the next corner. Strike their glowing remains after knocking them down to stop them getting back up.
  4. In the large cavern with the pillars, follow the left-hand ledge down and take the passage beside the distant crossbow skeleton. Continue onto the sloping stairs in the next chamber.
  5. Take the downward route toward the large altar and pit. The stairs going up lead to an optional Magma Wyrm; that fight is not needed to reach the exit.
  6. At the bottom, approach the message beside the deep chasm. Walk straight off this lowest ledge into the pit to land safely by the boss mist. Do not jump from the higher rooms or aim toward the side walls.
  7. Enter the boss mist and defeat Ancient Dragon-Man to receive Dragon-Hunter's Great Katana automatically. The road invader is a separate encounter and does not give this weapon.
  8. After collecting it, the large doors at the rear lead onward toward Jagged Peak. The return exit sends you back to the cave entrance instead.

Notes

  • Requires 15 Strength and 20 Dexterity and weighs 10.5. Physical damage has equal Strength and Dexterity scaling, although the benefit of another point depends on your current attributes and whether you use it with both hands.
  • Its ordinary attacks have 55 blood-loss buildup and a critical rating of 100. Arcane does not increase that buildup because this weapon has no Arcane scaling.
  • The weapon deals 30% extra damage against dragons and 15% against ancient dragons. The bonus follows the enemy's classification; it does not apply to every large enemy.
  • Dragonwound Slash costs 18 FP. You leap upward and slash down; fully charging the skill also releases a long-range projectile.
  • The charged projectile deals Physical damage based on the weapon's attack power. Its bright appearance does not make it Magic damage or give it Intelligence or Faith scaling.
  • At close range, the blade and projectile can both connect. At range, only the projectile reaches the enemy, and that projectile does not transfer the blade's blood-loss buildup.
  • Shard of Alexander strengthens the skill. Godfrey Icon applies to a fully charged use, but holding the charge leaves you exposed for longer.
  • It deals Slash and Pierce damage through its different attacks. The anti-dragon bonus does not remove an enemy's resistance to a particular physical damage type.
  • Upgrade it with Somber Smithing Stones to +10. Dragonwound Slash is fixed, and this weapon cannot use another Ash of War, grease or an outside weapon enchantment.
  • The uncharged skill is a close-range blade attack. Charging adds reach, but also raises its stamina cost from 48 to 63 before any other equipment effects.
  • Claw Talisman does not strengthen the skill merely because the character leaps. Godfrey Icon improves its charged damage rather than shortening the charge time.
