About this item

A consumed throwing harpoon that costs no FP. Carry up to five at once, with reserve stock stored separately.

Deals Pierce Physical damage. Strength provides its strongest damage scaling, with a smaller Dexterity contribution; it is not a Faith or Arcane incantation.

Has a 50% damage bonus against eligible ordinary dragons and 20% against eligible ancient dragons. The bonus follows the target's dragon classification rather than every creature with wings.

Where to find

Crafting after obtaining Igon's Cookbook [1]

Foot of the Jagged Peak

Starting Site of Grace: Grand Altar of Dragon Communion

Before you go

  • Crafting Kit
  • Igon's Cookbook [1]
  • Ingredients per batch: 2 Sharp Gravel Stone, 1 Hefty Beast Bone and 2 String
  1. From Castle Front, follow the road southeast toward Pillar Path Waypoint. At the fork, use the lower road toward Igon rather than climbing to the Suppressing Pillar.
  2. Continue south-southwest past the broken dragon statues. An Ancient Dragon-Man invades along this approach. The cave entrance is on the left near the end of the path, marked by a fire.
  3. Activate Dragon's Pit grace and follow the lit passage down. Watch for skeletons below the first ledge and around the next corner. Strike their glowing remains after knocking them down to stop them getting back up.
  4. In the large cavern with the pillars, follow the left-hand ledge down and take the passage beside the distant crossbow skeleton. Continue onto the sloping stairs in the next chamber.
  5. Take the downward route toward the large altar and pit. The stairs going up lead to an optional Magma Wyrm; that fight is not needed to reach the exit.
  6. At the bottom, approach the message beside the deep chasm. Walk straight off this lowest ledge into the pit to land safely by the boss mist. Do not jump from the higher rooms or aim toward the side walls.
  7. Defeat the Ancient Dragon-Man behind the mist. Open the large doors at the back of the arena instead of using the return-to-entrance exit, then follow the tunnel to Dragon's Pit Terminus grace.
  8. Leave Dragon's Pit Terminus and descend to the lake bed with a Jagged Peak Drake. You can ride past the drake; follow the southern canyon toward the enormous dead dragon.
  9. Pass the dragon statues and emerge beside the ruined structure north of Grand Altar of Dragon Communion. The huge stone bowl and dead dragon identify the altar.
  10. Enter the small ruined structure immediately north of the altar and loot the corpse for the cookbook.
  11. The book is a ground pickup. You do not need to spend Dragon Hearts, defeat Bayle or advance Igon's quest.
  12. Buy the Crafting Kit from Kale at the Church of Elleh if Item Crafting is still unavailable.
  13. Collect 2 Sharp Gravel Stone, 1 Hefty Beast Bone and 2 String. Outside combat, open Item Crafting and select Dragon Communion Harpoon. One batch makes 1.

Notes

  • A consumed throwing harpoon that costs no FP. Carry up to five at once, with reserve stock stored separately.
  • Deals Pierce Physical damage. Strength provides its strongest damage scaling, with a smaller Dexterity contribution; it is not a Faith or Arcane incantation.
  • Has a 50% damage bonus against eligible ordinary dragons and 20% against eligible ancient dragons. The bonus follows the target's dragon classification rather than every creature with wings.
  • Spear Talisman can improve its Physical counterhit when it catches an enemy during an attack. A body hit is still different from striking an exposed dragon head.
  • Dragon Communion Seal and Roar Medallion do not strengthen it as a dragon incantation. It is a throwable tool rather than a spell cast from a seal.
  • Igon's Cookbook [1] unlocks the recipe. Each harpoon uses two Sharp Gravel Stones, one Hefty Beast Bone and two String, making the gravel stones an important supply to prepare before a fight.
  • The cookbook is north of Grand Altar of Dragon Communion and does not require Bayle's defeat. Igon's quest, his greatbow and its ammunition are separate rewards.
  • Equip it in a consumable slot and use it directly. It does not load into Igon's Greatbow, a crossbow or a ballista.
